World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)

The World Wide Web Consortium, or the W3C, created a set of standards or specifications for all browser manufacturers to follow. In the early years of HTML, browser developers were free to define and modify the language as no rules or syntax were defined.

font-family property

The general structure of defining font for any page element is font-family: fonts; where fonts is a comma-separated list, also known as a font stack

General Syntax of CSS Style Rule

The general syntax of a CSS style rule is selector{ property1: value1; property2: value2; ... }

Style Specificity

The more specific style rule has precedence over the more general style rule. Specificity is an issue when two or more styles conflict. If two rules have equal specificity and equal importance, then the one that is defined last has precedence

Scheme: Location

The type of resource that a hypertext link points to is indicated by the link's URL--scheme: location. Examples: tel:# or mailto:address

World Wide Web (WWW)

Timothy Berners-Lee and other researchers at the CERN nuclear research facility near Geneva, Switzerland laid, the foundations for the World Wide Web, or the Web, in 1989

@font-face rule

To access and load a web font, add the @font-face rule to the style sheet. Once a web font is defined using the @font-face rule, it is included in the font stack.

Linking a Style Sheet

To link an HTML document to an external style sheet file, add the following element: <link href="file" rel="stylesheet" />

Wildcard Selector

To match any element, a wildcard selector with the * character is used

Typography is the art of designing the appearance of characters and letters on a page

Validators

Validators are programs that test code to ensure that it contains no syntax errors

Vendor Prefixes

Vendor prefixes indicate the browser vendor that created and supports the style property.

Web Fonts

Links to Web resources have a general structure like: http://server/path/filename#id, where server is the name of the web server hosting the resource, path is the path to the file on that server, filename is the name of the file, and if necessary, id is the name of an id within a file

Protocol

Protocol is a set of rules defining how information is passed between two devices

RGB Triplet

RGB triplet is the intensity of primary colors expressed as a set of numbers in CSS: rgb(red, green, blue)

Saturation

Saturation measures the intensity of a color and ranges from 0% (no color) up to 100% (full color)

Hypertext

They developed a system of interconnected hypertext documents that allowed their users to easily navigate from one topic to another. Hypertext is a method of organization in which data sources are interconnected through a series of links or hyperlinks.

Inline Images

To support embedded content, content imported from another resource, HTML provides embedded elements. Inline images are images that are placed like text-level elements in line with the surrounding content. To embed an inline image into the document, use <img src="file" alt="text" />.
