"Mean" Joe Greene was a Defensive Tackle for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1969-1981. He was a 4 time Super Bowl champion, 10 time Pro Bowler, 6 time All Pro, 2 time Defensive Player of the Year, and later on when to become the Steelers Defensive Line Coach. He is a member of the Hall of Fame.

Sammy Baugh

"Slingin" Sammy Baugh revolutionized the American Football world. Typically, it was 90% run plays, then pass only when you needed to. All that changed in 1937 when he was taken in round 1 by the Redskins. Now a Hall of Famer, the late Baugh threw the ball almost every play, changing the shape of football as we know it. He is a member of the Hall of Fame.

Lynn Swann

Lynn Swann was the Pittsburgh Steelers receiver from 1974-1982. He won 4 Super Bowls, 3 Pro Bowls, 2 time All Pro, and a member of the Hall of Fame

Oakland Raiders

A Founding member of the AFL, the Raiders have been to five Super Bowls, 1967, 1976, 1980, 1983, and 2002, winning in 1976, 1980, and 1983. They moved to Los Angeles in 1981, then moved back to Oakland in 1995.

Punter

A Position that punts the ball to the opposing team.

Quarterback

A Quarterback is the captain of the team. He throws the ball or hands the ball of the the running back. They get most of the fame and are often selected as MVP. They wear number 1-19.

Pro Football Hall of Fame

A group of players who achieved excellence in their career, and five to seven are added every year.

Linebackers

A position that is usually the captain of the defense. Their job is to sack the Quarterback, tackle Runnings Backs, and cover Tight Ends in coverage.

AAFC

All-American Football Conference was founded in 1946 and ceased in 1949. Two NFL teams came from the AAFC

AFL

American Football League (AFL) founded in 1960 and ceased in 1969 when it merged with the NFL

Bill Walsh

Bill Walsh is the most legendary coach in recent history, as he led the 49ers to three Super Bowls after taking over in 1979 and leaving in 1988. He also was the 49ers General manager. He is a member of the Hall of Fame.

Bruce Smith

Bruce Smith was the Defensive End for the Buffalo Bills from 1985-1999, where he was an 11 time Pro Bowler, 9 time All Pro, 3 time Defensive Player of the Year, and the most sacks in NFL history at 200. He played for the Washington Redskins from 2000-2003. He is a member of the Hall of Fame.

Calvin Johnson Jr

Calvin Johnson Jr holds the record for the most receiving yards in a single season (1,964). He was drafted by the Lions in 2007 and remained with the team until 2015, when he retired. He was a 6 time Pro Bowler, and led the league in receiving twice.

Cornerbacks

Cornerbacks cover Wide Receivers on passing routes, and are the last line of defense on runs. They are very similar to Safeties

Dan Bailey

Dan Bailey has been the Kicker for the Cowboys since 2011, with 1 Pro Bowl and All Pro, and holds the NFL record for highest field goal percentage (90%).

Dave Casper

Dave Casper was a Tight end for the Oakland Raiders from 1974-1980, where he won a Super Bowl, 5 time Pro Bowler, and 5 time All Pro, the Houston Oilers from 1980-1983, the Minnesota Vikings later in 1983, and the Los Angeles Rams in 1984. He is a member of the Hall of Fame.

Deacon Jones

Deacon Jones was a Defensive End for the Los Angeles Rams from 1961-1971, San Diego Chargers from 1972-1973, and the Washington Redskins in 1974. He was as 8 time Pro Bowler, 5 time All Pro, and 2 time Defensive Player of the Year. He is a member of the Hall of Fame.

Deon Sanders

Deon "Primetime" Sanders was a Cornerback for the Atlanta Falcons from 1989-1993, the San Francisco 49ers in 1994, the Dallas Cowboys from 1995-1999, the Washington Redskins in 2000, and the Baltimore Ravens in 2004 and 2005. He is a two time Super Bowl Champion, 8 time Pro Bowler and All Pro, and 1994 Defensive Player of the Year. He is a member of the Hall of Fame.

Dick Lane

Dick "Night Train" Lane was a Cornerback for the Los Angeles Rams from 1952-1953, the St Louis Cardinals from 1954-1959, and the Detroit Lions from 1960-1965. He holds the record for most interceptions in one season (14), 7 time Pro Bowler and All Pro, and is a member of the Hall of Fame.

Indianapolis Colts

Founded as the Baltimore Colts in 1953, they moved to Indianapolis in 1984. They have been to four Super Bowls, winning two in 1970 and 2006. They lost ones in 1968 and 2009.

Los Angeles Chargers

Founded as the Los Angeles Chargers in 1960 a part of the AFL, they moved to San Diego in 1961. Their only Super Bowl appearance came in 1994, which they lost. In 2017, the Chargers moved back to Los Angeles.

Chicago Bears

Founded in 1919, as the Decor Stanleys, they are the most winningest team in NFL history. They and the Cardinals are the only original teams still around. They won 8 championships in the pre-Super Bowl era. They have been to two Super Bowls. They won their first one in 1985 against the New England Patriots. The 1985 Bears are looked at as one of the greatest teams in NFL history. Their second was in 2006 in a loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

Detroit Lions

Founded in 1930 as the Portsmouth Spartans, and relocated in 1934 as the Detroit Lions. They are the oldest of the teams to never have been to a Super Bowl.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Founded in 1933 as the Pittsburgh Pirates, renamed in 1940 as the Pittsburgh Steelers. They are the oldest team in the AFC, and are have the record for most Conference Championship Appearances, and have won the most Super Bowls. They made it to the Super Bowl in 1974, 1975, 1978, 1979, 1995, 2005, 2008, and 2010, winning the ones in 1974, 1975, 1978, 1979, 2005, and 2008.

Buffalo Bills

Founded in 1960 apart of the AFL, the Bills are the only team to ever go to four straight Super Bowls (1990, 1991, 1992, 1993) despite losing them all.

New England Patriots

Founded in 1960 as a founding member of the AFL, originally known as the Boston Patriots, changing their name in 1971, the Patriots have been to nine Super Bowls winning four. They've won in 2001, 2003, 2004, and 2014, while also appearing in 1985, 1996, 2007, and 2011. Pending results in 2016.

Denver Broncos

Founded in 1960 as part of the AFL, the Denver Broncos have been to eight Super Bowls, but have only won three in 1997, 1998, and 2015, while losing in 1977, 1986, 1987, and 2013.

Kansas City Chiefs

Founded in 1960 in the AFL, originally the Dallas Texans, relocating and renaming in 1962 to the Kansas City Chiefs. They took part in the first Super Bowl in 1966, but lost. They won a few years later in 1969.

Dallas Cowboys

Founded in 1960, the Dallas Cowboys are one of the most successful teams in NFL history. They are tied with second most Super Bowl appearances (8) and tied for second with second most wins (5). They went to the Super Bowl in 1970, 1971, 1975, 1977, 1978, 1992, 1993, and 1995, winning the ones in 1971, 1977, 1992, 1993, and 1995.

Minnesota Vikings

Founded in 1961, the Vikings have been to four Super Bowls, winning none in 1969, 1973, 1974, and 1976.

Miami Dolphins

Founded in 1966 apart of the AFL, the Miami Dolphins are the only team to have a "Perfect Season", by not losing a single game, and then win the Super Bowl, which they did so in 1972. They then preceded to win the Super Bowl in 1973, and lost ones in 1971, 1982, and 1984.

Atlanta Falcons

Founded in 1966, the Atlanta Falcons have been to two Super Bowls, losing one in 1998, and pending results in 2016.

Seattle Seahawks

Founded in 1976 in the AFC, they moved to the NFC in 2002. They have been to three Super Bowls in 2005, 2013 and 2014, winning in 2013.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Founded in 1976, they have only one Super Bowl appearance, which they won 2002.

Carolina Panthers

Founded in 1995, they have been to two Super Bowls, losing both in 2003 and 2015.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Founded in 1995, they have never been to a Super Bowl.

Baltimore Ravens

Founded in 1996, they have been to two Super Bowls, winning both in 2000 and 2012.

Gene Upshaw

Gene Upshaw was a Left Guard for the Oakland Raiders from 1967-1981. He won 2 Super Bowls, 6 time Pro Bowler, 3 time All Pro, and is a member of the Hall of Fame.

San Francisco 49ers

In 1946, then San Francisco 49ers were founded apart of the All-American Football Conference, and came to the NFL in 1950, and have since been to 6 Super Bowls, in 1981, 1984, 1988, 1989, 1994, and 2012, winning all of those except in 2012.

Jack Lambert

Jack Lambert was a Linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1974-1984, when he won 4 Super Bowls, 9 Pro Bowls, 7 time All Pro, and 2 time Defensive Player of the Year. He is a member of the Hall of Fame.

Jerry Rice

Jerry Rice is known as the greatest receiver of all time. He holds the record from most receptions, yards, and reception touchdowns in NFL history. He played for the 49ers from 1985-2000, winning 3 Super Bowls, 13 Pro Bowls, and 1987 NFL MVP. He played for the Oakland Raiders from 2001-2003, the Seattle Seahawks in 2004, and was cut before the 2005 season by the Denver Broncos. He is a member of the Hall of Fame.

Jim Brown

Jim Brown was a Fullback for the Browns from 1957 to 1965. He won NFL MVP 4 times, including one in his rookie year. He was selected to 9 Pro Bowls, and led the league in rushing 8 times.

Matt Prater

Matt Prater is a Kicker that was cut from the Lions in 2006, cut from the Dolphins and Falcons in 2007, and played for the Broncos in 2007 until 2014, where he went back to Detroit and has been there since. He is a one time Pro Bowler and All Pro, while holding the record for the longest field goal. (64 yards)

Mel Blount

Mel Blount was a Cornerback for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1970-1983. He is a 4 time Super Bowl winner, 5 time Pro Bowler, 4 time All Pro, and the 1975 Defensive Player of the Year. He is a member of the Hall of Fame.

Mike Webster

Mike Webster was a Center for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1974-1988, where he won 4 Super Bowls, 9 time Pro Bowler, and 7 time All Pro, and also played for the Kansas City Chiefs from 1989-1990. He is a member of the Hall of Fame.

Morten Andersen

Morten Andersen was a Kicker for the New Orleans Saints from 1982-1994, Atlanta Falcons from 1995-2000, New York Giants in 2001, Kansas City Chiefs from 2002-2003, Minnesota Vikings in 2004, and the Atlanta Falcons again from 2006-2007. In his 25 year career, he is a 7 time Pro Bowler, 6 time All Pro, and holds the records for most points scored (2,544), most game winning field goals (103), only player to hold a statistical records for two teams (Saints and Falcons), most consecutive games scoring points (360), and many more.

National Football League (NFL) was founded in 1920 and is the largest American Football League in the world.

Los Angeles Rams

Originally in the American Football League (Unrelated), they were founded in 1936 as the Cleveland Rams, and moved to the NFL in 1937. In 1946 they moved to Los Angeles, and appeared in a Super Bowl in 1979, and lost. In 1994 they moved to St. Louis and made it to two Super Bowls, winning one in 1999, and lost in 2001. In 2016, the Rams moved back to Los Angeles.

Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles, founded in 1933, are among the club of 0 Super Bowl wins, despite their two appearances in 1980 and 2004.

Ray Guy

Ray Guy was the first Punter to be taken in the first round by the Oakland Raiders in 1973, and stayed until 1986. He is a 7 time Pro Bowl, 6 time All Pro, 3 time Super Bowl champion, and the only Punter in the Hall of Fame.

Ray Lewis

Ray Lewis is a Linebacker that played for the Baltimore Ravens from 1996-2012, where he won 2 Super Bowls, 13 Pro Bowls, 7 All Pros, and 2 time Defensive Player of the Year.

Rod Woodson

Rod Woodson was a Cornerback/Safety for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1987-1996, San Francisco 49ers in 1997, Baltimore Ravens in 1998-2001, and the Oakland Raiders from 2002-2003. He won one Super Bowl, 11 Pro Bowls, 6 All Pros, 1993 Defensive Player of the Year, and holds the NFL record for most pick sixes (14). He is a member of the Hall of Fame.

Ronnie Lott

Ronnie Lott was a Cornerback and Safety for the 49ers from 1981-1990, the Los Angeles Raiders from 1991-1992, New York Jets from 1993-1994, the Kansas City Chiefs from 1995, and again briefly with the 49ers later in 1995. He is a 4 time Super Bowl winner, 10 time Pro Bowler, and 8 time All Pro. He is a member of the Hall of Fame.

Safety

Safeties are the last line of defense. They often play zone, and cover Tight Ends and Running Backs. There are two variations, Strong Safety(SS) and Free Safety (FS).

Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers (GB) were founded in 1919 and joined the NFL in 1921. They are fierce rivals with the Chicago Bears and their W-L record with them are decided by only a few games. They won the first two Super Bowls in 1966 and 1967 over the Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders. They didn't make it back until 1996 in a win over the Atlanta Falcons, and lost the next year to the Denver Broncos.

Tennessee Titans

The Houston Oilers were founded in 1960 in the AFL, moving to Tennessee in 1996 and changing the name to Titans in 1999, also the same year as their one and only Super Bowl appearance, which they lost.

Peyton Manning

The Indianapolis Colts Round 1 draft pick in 1998, and arguably the best quarterback in NFL history, Peyton Manning's 17 years career saw him go to four Super Bowls, winning two and the only quarterback to ever win a Super Bowl with two teams (Colts-2006; Broncos-2015).

Kicker

The Kicker kicks the ball to start the game, and kicks field goals along with extra points. They often are the highest scorers.

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints were founded in 1967 and have one Super Bowl appearance which they won in 2009.

New York Giants

The New York Giants (NYG), whom share a stadium with the New York Jets, were founded in 1925. They have had five Super Bowl appearances, winning four in 1986, 1990, 2007, and 2011, losing one in 2000.

New York Jets

The New York Titans were founded in 1960 in the AFL, while renaming themselves in 1962 to the Jets, have only been to one Super Bowl (which they won) in 1968.

Joe Montana

The Round 3 draft pick in 1979 by the 49ers was a steal. Montana lead the 49ers to 4 Super Bowl Championships, and was selected to the pro bowl 8 times and MVP twice. He played for the 49ers from 1979-1992 and the Kansas City Chiefs from 1993-1994. He is a member of the Hall of Fame.

Chuck Noll

The Steelers coach from 1969-1991, Chuck Noll is the only coach to have won four Super Bowls. Since him, there have been only three Steelers coaches in over 40+ years. He is a member of the Hall of Fame.

Barry Sanders

The best player to have never played in a Super Bowl, the Lions' Barry Sanders certainly is the best Runningback of all time. He was a four time NFL rushing leader, 1997 MVP, and 10 time Pro Bowler. He is a member of the Hall of Fame.

Super Bowl

The championship, first held in 1966 as a game between the champions of the NFL/NFC and AFL/AFC.

Vince Lombardi

The head coach for the Green Bay Packers during the first two Super Bowls is the most legendary coach of all time. The Super Bowl trophey is named after him, and has one of the best win% out of any coach in NFL history. He is a member of the Hall of Fame.

Arizona Cardinals

The oldest NFL team, founded in 1898 in Chicago. They were known as the Morgan Athletic Club until 1920 when they were renamed to the Chicago Cardinals. In 1960 they moved to St Louis. Finally, in 1988, they moved to Arizona. Despite their longevity, they have only every been to one Super Bowl, in 2008 against the Pittsburgh Steelers and they lost 27-23.

Cleveland Browns

The other team from the AAFC, were founded in 1946 as the Cleveland Browns in 1949, and came to the NFL in 1950. They have never been to a Super Bowl.

Houston Texans

The youngest NFL team, founded in 2002, the Texans have never been to a Super Bowl.

Cincinnati Bengals

The youngest of the AFL teams being founded in 1968, and only have two Super Bowl appearances, losing both of them in 1981 and 1988.

Offensive Line

There are five positions under the offensive line, and they are arguably the most important on the team, Left Tackle, Left Guard, Center, Right Guard, and Right Tackle. They block for the Quarterback and Running Backs.

Running Back

There are two classes of Running Backs, Fullback and Halfback. The Fullback mostly blocks and is much larger, while the halfback gets the ball often and are usually the smallest players on the team. They wear the numbers 20-49.

Tight End

Tight Ends are usually tall and big, but fast at the same time. They must be able to both catch and block. They wear the numbers 40-49 or 80-89.

Tony Gonzalez

Tony Gonzalez was the Tight End for the Kansas City Chiefs from 1997-2008, and for the Falcons from 2009-2013. He was a 13 time Pro Bowler, 6 time All Pro, and over 15,000 career yards.

Troy Polamalu

Troy Polamalu was a Strong Safety for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2003-2014. There he won 2 Super Bowls, 8 time Pro Bowler, 4 time All Pro, and 2010 Defensive Player of the Year.

Walter Payton

Walter "Sweetness" Payton died young at 45, but in his 12 year career, he was dominant for the Bears. He lead them to their only Super Bowl win in 1985, 9 time Pro Bowler, MVP in 1977 and 1985, and has an award named after him for the best off the field character (Walter Payton Man of the Year Award). He is a member of the Hall of Fame.

Washington Redskins

Washington Redskins, founded as the Boston Braves in 1932, have had a very storied franchise. They have five Super Bowl appearances in 1972, 1982, 1983, 1987, and 1991, as they won the Super Bowl in 1982, 1987, and 1991.

Wide Reciever

Wide Receivers catch the ball thrown by the quarterback. They often are around 6'0'' and very fast. They wear the numbers 10-19 or 80-89.
