atom

An atom is the smallest unit of an element. Each element is made up of one kind of atom.

Elements

An element is any substances that cannot be broken down into simpler substances. Ex:Nitrogen, oxygen Ex: In living things-carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulfur

Carbohydrates

An energy rich organic compound made of the elements carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. Common name: starch (polymer) & sugar (monomer) Give us energy In addition to provided energy for the cell, carbohydrates are important components of some cell parts. EX: Rice, pasta, Bread bagel carrot apple, Grapes, Crackers, potato

Inorganic compound

An inorganic compound does not contain the element carbon. Ex:water, table salt

Lipids

Energy-rich organic compound that is made of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen Lipids contain more energy than carbohydrates. Cells store energy lipids for later use. In addition lipids make most of the cell membrane. Common name: fat, oil, or wax Monomer: fatty acid and glycerol Polymer: lipid EX: olive oil, milk, fish, fish, oil, wax

Protein

Large organic molecules made of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and sometimes sulfur Ex: meat, eggs, fish, muscle milk, nuts, and beans.

organic compound

Most compound that contain carbon are organic compounds. Ex: Carbohydrates, lipids, protein, and nucleic acids. These play important roles in the function of cells.

nucleic acids

Nucleic acids very long organic molecules mad of carbon, Carbon, Hydrogen, nitrogen, and phosphorus. Nucleic acids contain the instruction that cell need to carry out all the function of life.

amino acids

Protein molecules are made up of smaller molecules called amino acids. There are 20 common amino acids, but thousands of proteins.

enzyme

The proteins known as enzymes perform important function in the chemical reaction that take place in cells.

Water

Water is made up of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. Most chemical reactions within cells could not take place without water. Plants convert food into energy without water. Water also helps cells by keeping their shape. Help the temperature of cells from changing rapidly.

Compound

When two or more elements combined chemically, they form a compound. Ex: Carbon Dioxide is a compound made of carbon and oxygen elements.

sugar

sugar are produced during the food-making process that takes place in plants. Ex:Fruits and vegetables have high sugar content.

Starch

sugar molecules can combine to form large molecules called starch or complex carbohydrates. Plants store excess energy in starch. Ex: potatoes, pasta, rice, and bread.
