Position the Pectoral Girdle Muscles (origin, insertion, action)
Origin of Trapezious
Occipital bone, ligamentum nuchae, and spinous process of thoracic vertebra
Origin of Levator Scapulae
Transverse processes of first four cervical vertebrae
Insertion of Levator Scapulae
Vertebral border of scapula near superior border
Insertion of Rhomboideous Major
Vertebral border of scapula, from spine to inferior angle
Origin of Serratus Anterior
Anterior and superior margins of ribs 1-8 (or 9)
Origin of Pectoralis Minor
Anterior surface of the sternal ends of ribs 3-5
Insertion of Serratus Anterior
Anterior surface of vertebral border of scapula
Insertion of Trapezious
Clavicle, acromion process and scapular spine of scapula
Action of Levator Scapulae
Elevates scapula
Action of Trapezious
1) Elevate, retract, depress, or rotate scapula 2) elevate clavicle 3) extend neck
Action of Rhomboideous Major
Adducts scapula and preforms downward rotation
Action of Pectoralis Minor
Depresses and protracts shoulder, rotates scapula downward, elevates ribs *if scapula is stationary
Action of Serratus Anterior
Protracts shoulder and rotates scapula in upward rotation
Origin of Rhomboideous Major
Spinous processes of superior thoracic vertebrae
Insertion of Pectoralis Minor
Coracoid process of scapula
