Crooks -he is trying to tell Lennie that he has seen so many people with the same dream who have never succeeded.

"I'm goin'... I'm gonna shoot the guts outta that bug bastard myself, even if I only got one hand... You George! You stick with us so we don't think you had nothin to do with this"(98).

Curley -doesn't mourn over the loss of his deceased wife, and instead quickly takes this opportunity to seek revenge on Lennie to the time of when he hurt his hand. He also threatens George.

"What kinda harm am I doin you? Seems like they ain't non of them cares how i gotta live. I tell you I ain't used to livin like this. I coulda made somethin of myself ... Maybe I will yet"(88).

Curley's wife -she asked Lennie about why no one talks to her and that she is very lonely and needs some socialization.

"I think I knowed from the very first. I think I knowed we'd never do her, he usta like to hear about it so much i got to thinking maybe we would." (94).

George -the dream was dead before it even began, and that if was too good to be true. But, Lennie loved to hear about it. George talked about it so much he started to believe that it might come true.

"Guys like us, that work on ranches, are the loneliest people of the world... We got somebody to talk to that gives a damn about us... "(13-14)

George -he explains to Lennie how they have dreams and a future because they have each other.

"Curley's gonna want to shoot im. Curley's still mad about his hand. An s'pose they lock him up and strap him down and put him in a cage. That ain't no good, George"(97).

Slim -he is trying to warn George of what would happen if Curley finds out about his wife's death. Slim is basically saying that they really need to find a way to protect Lennie.

"Ain't many guys travel around together. I don't know why. Maybe ever'body in the whole damn world is scared of each other." (35)

Slim -he tries to explain to George and Lennie that it's unusual for the,pm to travel together but not bad slim Mitty think it's refreshing to see two people that care so much for one another.

"He spends half his time looking for her, and the rest of the time she's looking for him." (53)

Whit -he was joking about how Curley and his wife didn't have a strong relationship since Curley didn't want her talking to anyone besides him. Likewise, she didn't really want to talk to Curley either. They are both disconnected emotionally.

"Never did seem right to me. S'pose Curley jumps a big guy and licks him... Curley ain't given nobody a chance..." (26-27)

Candy -he tries to warn George and Lennie to be careful around Curley since he is so belligerent and hostile all the time.

"I bet we could swing her" (60).

George -he is referring to the woman who is selling the dream land to George and Lennie. Since she is ill and they have a little under asking price, they hope that they will be able to negotiate the price.

"He ain't no cuckoo. He's dumb as hell, but he ain't crazy...(39)"

George -he is trying to explain to slim that even though Lennie isn't smart, he isn't crazy. Also, he states that he isn't so smart himself.

" I like to pet nice things. Once at a fair I seen some of them long hair rabbits, an they was nice, you bet. Sometimes I've even let mice, but not when u could get nothing better"(90).

Lennie -foreshadowing to when Lennie kills Curley's wife -the simplicity of Lennie is that doesn't mean what he does and that his action are instinctual.
