What is a standard?

Object, quality or measure serving as basis, example or principle to which others conform or should conform or by which others are judged. A standard is a document that provides requires, specifications, guidelines or characteristics that can be used consistently to ensure that materials, products, processes and services are fit for their purpose.

Five Steps to Developing a Product Standard

Step One: Establish a descriptive standard for the product Step Two: Develop measurable attributes to achieve the descriptive standard Step Three: Develop 'criteria' by which the attributes will be measured Step Four: Evaluation of final product. Compare the final product with the criteria to determine if the standard has been meet Step Five: Investigate and correct discrepancies. This allows for revision to improve the product in the future.

What is the purpose of a Product Standard?
