Rational Function

A function of the form f(x)=(p(x)/q(x)) where p(x) and q(x) are polynomials and q(x) does not equal zero

Branch

A rational function consists of branches separated by asymptotes.

Asymptote

In mathematics, an asymptote is a horizontal, vertical, or slanted (also: oblique) line. A graph approaches but never touches a vertical and an oblique asymptote. The function can touch and even cross over the horizontal asymptote.

Reciprocal Function

In mathematics, the reciprocal of a variable (say x) is denoted by 1/x or x^−1. A reciprocal function of a number is equal to 1 divided by that number.
