3) Discuss 4 Principles of CST that help us arrive at a theology of the ecology.

1. A god centered sacramental world- The entire universe is God's dwelling place. The earth is a small but especially blessed corner of God's wondrous creation. It is our home, a place where people in past ages have met the loving creator through the natural wonders such as mountains, deserts, streams, oceans, etc. 2. Respect for life- respect for lire and respect for our nature is intimately connected. All of God's creatures glorify hm. The immense variety of ecosystems and the millions of species God created are part of the divine plan. They all require our respect and protection. 3. Planetary common good and solidarity- we live in a global village. We are interdependent. The pollution from one country affects the people in other nations. Very often the worst polluters are the least affected by their thoughtlessness. 4. Universal purpose of created things- God intended the earth with everything contained in it for the use of all human beings and peoples. The goods of the earth are for the benefit of all. God does not favor anyone. 5. Option for the poor- the assault on the environment often hurts the poor. For example, native people die when their forests and grasslands are destroyed. The needs of the poor must not be neglected 6. Authentic development, consumption, and population- many in the rich and developed nations of the world blame the overpopulation as the major cause of the environments degradation. The truth is that the biggest factor contributing to environmental deconstruction is over consumption by developed nations.

2)List and explain five human rights as they relate to the enviornment.

1. Freedom from pollution and activities that threaten the environment. 2. Safe and healthy food and water adequate to our well being 3. Protection and preservation of the air, soil, water, sea ice, flora and fauna, and the essential processes necessary to maintain biological diversity and ecosystems 4. Be consulted and included in any decisions affecting their environment 5. Active and free participation in planning and decision making on the impact of any development that impacts on their environment 6. Banning substances and activities that are harmful to the environment 7. Repairing the damage that has already been done to the environment 8. Ensuring that our natural resources are distributed fairly 9. Reducing wasteful processes of production and patterns of consumption

1)Explain the Principle of Stewardshp. What does it mean to be a good steward? List and explain 3 things we can do to improve the enviornment.

The principle of stewardship states that "we are called to protect people and the planet, living our faith in relationship with all of God's creation." To be a good steward basically means to respect God by respecting and being good stewards of His earth. One thing we can do to improve the environment is by saving energy. We can do this by turning off lights and other electrical appliances when we are leaving the house. Another thing we can do is recycle paper and plastic products through our local community, or avoid buying these products in general. A third thing we can do is to simplify your lifestyle buy consuming less, this basically means only buying things that you need, not want.

Don't smoke- polluting one's personal environment negatively affects God's good creation which is all of us.
