Different climates between colonial regions caused different economic developments by limiting regions' ability to farm economically. The New England region consisted of rocky soil and long winters, this resulted in subsistence farming, and for them to focus on manufacturing such as ship building to support their economy. Fertile soil and warmer weather in the middle and southern colonies allowed them to have agricultural based economies run by plantations, especially in the South. Having these unique climates was one of the distinct reasons for the colonies economic variations.

The Chesapeake region produced and sent tobacco to keep it's economy financially stable. While the middle colonies produced grain to help keep their economy stable but also had iron-making manufacturing. These variation in crops and manufacturing efforts in the middle and cheasapeake colonies caused difference between them.

Briefly explain how ONE specific environmental or geographical feature of the middle colonies contributed to the region's unique development before 1754.

The fertile soil in the middle colonies allowed for the regions development by providing it to grow grain to export. Wheat and corn was grown and exported in the middle colonies and provided it to economically develop. The middle colonies were nicknamed "the bread colonies'' as a result of their grain exports. Briefly explain how ONE specific environmental or geographical feature of the New England colonies contributed to the region's unique development before 1754.

The long and cold winters of the New England colonies contributed to the region's development by making it harder to survive originally. When the pilgrims first arrived they settled in the beginning of winter so it was hard to grow and find food to support families. This resulted in almost half of the original pilgrims dying from sickness and starvation. However as they made more contact with the Native Americans they helped them learned to adapt and survive to the land, like planting corn and showing them where to fish. The beginning of the rough development of Plymouth wouldn't have been without the cold winters.

Briefly explain how ONE specific environmental or geographical feature of the southern colonies contributed to the region's unique development before 1754.

The swampy water of the southern colonies, specifically Jamestown, caused them to be slow with development by causing malaria and not being a safe water source. Jamestown did not have a proper clean water source so the colonist drank the brackish water from the Chesapeake, this gave them dysentery along with the malaria they got from the mosquitos. These things along with the starvation from the lack of food caused the majority of the colonists to die during the first years of settlement. This caused a rough development for the first few years for the first southern colony.
