Secondary consumer

Secondary consumers eat primary consumers. They are carnivores (meat-eaters) and omnivores (animals that eat both animals and plants). Food chains "end" with top predators, animals that have little or no natural enemies.

Third-Level consumer

a carnivore at the topmost level in a food chain that feeds on other carnivores; an animal that feeds only on secondary consumers.

Food chain

a hierarchical series of organisms each dependent on the next as a source of food.

a system of interlocking and interdependent food chains.

Detritivore

an animal that feeds on dead organic material especially plant detritus

Primary Consumer

an example is a rabbit that eats grass. The next link in the chain is animals that eat herbivores - these are called secondary consumers -- an example is a snake that eat rabbits.

Decomposer

an organism especially a soil bacterium, fungus or invertebrate that decomposes organic material.
