This usually involves they introduction of a weakened pathogen - too weak to cause disease but with enough antigens to cause the immune system to produce antibodies and memory cell. There is a delay before full immunity occurs but this process is long term

Two immunity?

Passive immunity: is the introduction of ready-made antibodies to the body from an outside source. This usually gives effective short term immunity to a specific pathogen Active immunity: is a response to contact with an actual pathogen or toxin. This occurs when our body fights an infection and recovers. As part of the process our bodies develop memory cells and antibodies. These recognise any pathogens or toxins that re-enter out bodies and allow our immune system to quickly destroy them before they cause harm. Unlikely to get sick again from it. This is a long lasting immunity

Passive immunity from vaccinations

This usually involves injecting ready made antibodies produced by an outside source. It does not involve memory cells and result only in short term. It is instant protection from the pathogen.
