Movement of the thumb to touch the fingertips

Summarize in one sentence how bones are able to create movement.

bones work together with muscles to maintain the body's position and to produce controlled, precise movements.

plantar flexion

bending of the sole of the foot by curling the toes toward the ground

abduction/adduction

movement away/into from midline (to and from abs)

inversion/eversion

movements of the sole of the foot medially or laterally

gliding

nearly flat bone surfaces slide or glide over each other

supination and pronation

rotational movement, results in the palm facing upward/downward (cup of sOUP)

Compare and contrast the three types of structural classifications for joints.

Anterior / posterior movement along transverse plane Ex. Mandible (stick chin out / pull chin back)

CIRCULAR MOVEMENT AROUND AN AXIS

Describe the relationship between the amount of movement a joint allows and its stability. Include examples of joints in the human body to support your reasoning.

Such as when in your back or your skull, your bones need to be stable and thus rigid to maintain the bone shape and structure. More rigid/more stable.

Differentiate between how joints can be classified functionally and structurally

The structural classification divides joints into fibrous, cartilaginous, and synovial joints depending on the material composing the joint and the presence or absence of a cavity in the joint. The functional classification divides joints into three categories: synarthroses, amphiarthroses, and diarthroses.

flexion and extension

bending and extension of a limb

Circumduction

circular movement of a limb at the far end

Hyperextension

extension beyond anatomical position

dorsiflection

flexing the foot at the ankle towards the shin

Diarthrosis

freely movable joint

Synarthrosis

immovable joint

Give an example of the two types of muscle contraction.

isometric, holding a weight still in hand concentric- bicep curl

Create a diagram or other visual tool to show the difference between the types of synovial joints. Include a simple sketch of each, an example in the human body, and the types of movements allowed.

Draw a picture of a synovial joint and label its six key features.

Ampiarthrosis

slightly movable joint

Describe an example of a muscle contraction in a lower appendage joint and identify the bones of origin and insertion involved

squat- knee- femur, patella
