endothermic change

The definition of endothermic is a chemical reaction that is accompanied by the absorption of heat, or an organism that generates heat to maintain its temperature. A chemical reaction that works only if heat is absorbed is an example of a reaction that would be described as endothermic.

chemical change

Chemistry. a usually irreversible chemical reaction involving the rearrangement of the atoms of one or more substances and a change in their chemical properties or composition, resulting in the formation of at least one new substance: The formation of rust on iron is a chemical change. Compare physical change.

chemical energy

Chemistry. a usually irreversible chemical reaction involving the rearrangement of the atoms of one or more substances and a change in their chemical properties or composition, resulting in the formation of at least one new substance: The formation of rust on iron is a chemical change. Compare physical change.

density

Density is a measure of mass per unit of volume. ... The average density of an object equals its total mass divided by its total volume. An object made from a comparatively dense material (such as iron) will have less volume than an object of equal mass made from some less dense substance (such as water).

Law of Conservation of Mass

Law of Conservation of Mass in Chemistry. ... In defining the law, Lavoisier stated, "atoms of an object cannot be created or destroyed, but can be moved around and be changed into different particles".

physical change

Physical changes are changes affecting the form of a chemical substance, but not its chemical composition. Physical changes are used to separate mixtures into their component compounds, but can not usually be used to separate compounds into chemical elements or simpler compounds.

thermal energy

Thermal energy would ideally be the amount of heat required to warm the metal to its temperature, but this quantity is not well-defined, as there are many ways to obtain a given body at a given temperature, and each of them may require a different amount of total heat input.

International System of Units

a system of physical units ( SI Units ) based on the meter, kilogram, second, ampere, kelvin, candela, and mole, together with a set of prefixes to indicate multiplication or division by a power of ten.

exothermic

adjectiveCHEMISTRY (of a reaction or process) accompanied by the release of heat. (of a compound) formed from its constituent elements with a net release of heat. Feedback

mass

mass definition. In physics, the property of matter that measures its resistance to acceleration. Roughly, the mass of an object is a measure of the number of atoms in it. The basic unit of measurement for mass is the kilogram. (See Newton's laws of motion; compare weight.)

volume

quantity of three-dimensional space occupied by a liquid, solid, or gas. Common units used to express volume include liters, cubic meters, gallons, milliliters, teaspoons and ounces.M

Temperature

the degree or intensity of heat present in a substance or object, especially as expressed according to a comparative scale and shown by a thermometer or perceived by touch.
