Head Restraint

I am a padded device on the backs of your front seats. I help reduce whiplash injuries if your car is struck from the rear.

Steering Wheel

I am used to control the direction of the front wheels. When I am turned right, the car moves to the right. When I am turned left, the car turns left.

Accelerator

I am used to control the speed of a car. I also set the automatic choke.

Brake

I am used to slow or sop a car. If you tap me lightly, the brake light will flash.

Ignition

I am usually located on the steering column. The engine will not start unless I am turned to the "ON" position.

Temperature Warning Light

I illuminate when the engine coolant gets too hot.

Brake Warning Light

I remind you to release the parking brake. I also warn you that all or part of brake system is not working properly

Odometer

I show the total number of miles a car has been driven.

Alternator

I warn you if the car's electrical system is in trouble.

Oil Pressure Gauge

I warn you when the engine oil is not circulating at the right pressure.

Seatbelt

If I am fitted properly, I help you avoid hitting the inside of the car during a sudden stop or collision.

Gear Selector Lever

In a car with an automatic transmission, you move me to choose forward or reverse gears.

Clutch

In a stick shift car, I am to the left of the foot-brake pedal. You push me down to shift gears.

Hazard Lights or Emergency Flasher

When I am on, all turn-signal lights flash at the same time. I warn others that your vehicle is a hazard or that you are in trouble.
