LAN

(Local Area Network) A computer network limited to the immediate area usually the same building or floor of a building or a school campus.

WAN

(Wide Area Network) A network that connects computers and other resources over great distances.

An expansion card that enables a computer to connect other computers or to a cable modem to facilitate a high-speed Internet connection.

Modem

Communications hardware device that facilitates the transmission of data.

Internet Service Provider (ISP)

a company that provides access to the internet for a monthly fee

peer-to-peer network

any network without a central file server and in which all computers in the network have access to the public files located on all other workstations
