rough terrain straight mast forklifts

able to move and lift loads vertically. better for larger rough terrain, used for loading and off loading deliveries at a job site

industrial forlifts

able to move and lift loads vertically. used on only smooth level surfaces

rammer tamper

aka jumping jack; stand-alone piece of equipment powered by a gasoline engine that compacts material by mechanically delivering vertical blows and is self-propelled in that each blow moves the tamper slightly ahead to contact new material

manual tamper

often a simple pole with a flat, heavy metal plate affixed to the end. compacts material by manually delivering vertical blows.

backhoe

tractor-like piece of equipment hat consists of a two-part articulated arm and bucket. Commonly used in shallow and narrow trench excavations, utilities, and material handling

hydraulic submersible pumps

use hydraulics to power the pumps and are ideal when the pump can't be physically placed near the water source.

personnel and material hoists

used to transport workers and material vertically in a multistory building. rail will support one or two cars

mechanical hammer pile driver

uses a mechanical actuated piston and hammer to drive the pile into the ground

pile jetting

uses pipes to deliver concentrated jets of water or air to loosen the soil directly beneath the piling

pile drillers

utilize a large steel auger to bore a hole into the ground that can then be filled with concrete

grader

wheeled piece of equipment with a center-mounted angled blade. primarily used to finish level grade.

loader

wide front-mounted bucket that can be raised, lowered, and dumped. commonly used for landscaping, material handling, and loading of stockpiled materials into trucks to be hauled. Three common classifications (skid steer, wheel, track). Skid steer are most common.

equipment

crawler cranes

equipped with steel tracks that allow them to move around the job site at slow speeds. typically large in size and often have lattice/truss-style boom. usually require on-site assembly. Best for sites that require crane usage for an extended period of time or have significant lifting or multiple crane position requirements

tower crane

erected and disassembled in sections by mobile cranes. supported at ground level by concrete foundation or by the structural frame of the building. cab is located high above the job site, giving the operator an unobstructed view of the site. Make sure there is room to have one of these!

stationary cranes

erected and fixed to a single location on the job site. typically erected early in the project, not disassembled until all major lifting activities are complete. Most effective on sites that require a great amount of lifting activities around a central location. One of the most common types of stationary cranes is a tower crane.

dragline

excavates material by using a dragline (cable) to pull a bucket toward the crane. Advantage = excavation equipment is able to remain outside of the excavation

tieback bracing system

external bracing system that uses metal rods or wires anchored into the rock or soil outside of an excavation to support the face of an excavation. Provide larger clear work areas within the excavation. installed at an angle. Commonly used in urban areas where excavation for a building extends to the edge of a property
