80% of network dramas contain violence but children's shows are more violent (less death). There is no link between seeing violence and being violent.

Mass Media

Includes TV, video games, newspapers, blogs, etc. and communicates norms and values

Family

Modern societies have small scale families. In the US most families are nuclear but some are not (single-parent, extended). Region and social class of family affect socialization.

Work

More relevant for industrial societies. Each workplace has its on little subcultures and might require re-socialization in which you learn new ways to behave (example: boot camp).

Natural Growth, children do best when they develop their own skills without much oversight

Phases of Socialization

Primary: Infancy and childhood. Family is the primary agent and it is the most intense period of socialization Secondary: Later childhood, into adulthood. Agents include schools, peers, and the workplace.

Schools

Teach important skills like reading and math (SF) but also teach obedience to authority and about taking turns (CT).
