White Balance

A camera control system that neutralizes the color tints of different light sources, such as sunshine and halogen lamps, and matches the camera to the overall color quality of light in the shooting environment.

Record switch

A camera control that starts and stops the actual recording and gathering of footage. This also pauses the recording.

Power switch

A camera control that turns the camera on and off.

Zoom Control

A camera control that zooms the camera lens in to fill the screen with a narrow portion of a scene, or zooms the camera lens out to fill the screen with a wider portion of the scene.

Default Settings

A camera setting that is made automatically by the equipment

Memory card

A small, thin card inserted into a camera for recording images, and into a computer for copying images to an editing project. Sometimes called "flash memory." MP4: A common file format used for recording video.

Default

An action or condition that is selected automatically by the equipment, but the user may change it manually.

Auto focus

An automatic camera control that focuses the incoming light to keep the picture sharp and clear; may be disabled for manual operation.

Auto exposure

An automatic camera control that regulates the amount of light admitted through the camera lens; may be disabled for manual operation.

Zoom

Changes the focal length of the camera lens while recording to magnify or reduce the size of an element in a portion of a shot.

Digital video recorder (DVR)

Compact models are used in professional video productions to record footage directly from a camera. "Set-top" models are used to record broadcast and cable TV programs.

MP4

Motion Pictures Experts Group Layer 4. A common file format used for recording video.

Information is typically displayed in a camera's viewfinder

Rendering

To create a finished video from its editing elements.

Scrub

To drag the slider bar in the preview window (or the vertical line in the thumbnails) forward and backward in order to review the content of a shot or find an exact edit point.

Pan

To pivot the camera horizontally (from side to side) on its support.
