Competitive exclusion Principle:

No two species can occupy the same niche in the same habitat at the same time. Competing for same resources. Species is eliminated from a community because of competition for the same limited resources.

Resource

refers to anything that is required for life.

Mutualism

+/+ both species benefit from interaction.

Predation, Parasitism, symbiosis

+/- one species benefits, one is disadvantaged

Commensalism

+/0 one species benefits, one unaffected.

Competition

-/- each species affected negatively

Kudzu examples

Competes with native flora for light. Blocks plants access by growing over them and shading them with it leaves.

Community interactions include:

Competition, predation, Symbiosis, Mutualism, Commensalism, Parasitism.

Ecological Community

is to defined as a group of actually or potentially interacting species living in the same area. Whatever affects one species also affects others.

Interference Competition

meaning it out - competes other species for a resource.

Resource might include

food, water, light, nesting sites, or room to grow.

What is Competition

is an interaction between organisms or species, in which the fitness of one is lowered by the presence of another.

Competition occurs

when organisms of the same or different species attempt to use the same ecological resources in the same place at the same time.
