Two sources to reconstruct the Harappan Civilization are as follows 1-The remains of the two towns,Mohenjo-daro and Harappa reveals a remarkable sense of town planning- the drainage system,the Great Bath, the Assembly Hall and other public buildings. 2-Harrapa and Mohenjo-daro each had its own citadel which was probably occupied by members of the Ruling Class.The Citadel points to an elaborate planning which justifies that Harappan Civilization was an urban civilization. 3-More than 2000 Seals discovered from various sites have revealed information about physical features, dress, ornaments and religious beliefs of the people. 4-The bronze figure of a dancing girl,the terracota figurine of the Mother Goddess and a stone statue of a Noble Bearded Man signify the clever craftsmanship of the people of Harappan Civilization. 5-Adockward discovered at Lothal in Gujarat suggests about the navigation practices conducted on the coast of the Arabian Sea at that time. 6-Harappan Scripts found at the site proves that Harappans had invented the art of writing like the people of ancient Mesopotamia. 7-Objects of Sumerian origin found at the site indicate trade relations betweenIndia and Mesopotamia

The Harappan Civilization extended from Sutkagendor(on the Makran Coast)in the West to Alamgirpur(Ganga-Yamuna Doab of Uttar Pradesh)in the East.In the South the Harappans were using the Gulf of Cambay(Khambhat).

The two important centres or the Indus Valley Civilization are Harappa and Mohenjo-daro. Harappa was situated on the bank of river Ravi in West Punjab,now in Pakistan . Mohenjo-daro was located in the Larkana district of Sind,now in Pakistan. Other sites of Indus Valley Ci vilization includeChanhudaro in Sind,Lothal in Gujarat, Kalibangan in northern Rajasthan, Rupar in Punjab,Alamgirpur in Uttar Pradesh and Balwali in Haryana. By now 800 sites related to Harappan Civilization have been discovered.
