How do you work as part of a team?

As long as lines of communication remain open I am comfortable working independently or in a team.

Do you have any previous lab experience outside of Northeastern.

I do not but every semester I've been at northeastern I have had lab requirements in either chemistry or biology related classes so I definitely feel comfortable in this type of setting and this past summer I took genetics and molecular biology as one of my two courses during the term so I was really able to focus and immerse myself in that course and gain knowledge on the common techniques and tools used in molecular biology.. I also am aware that communication with your supervisor is key especially in the training period, an example of this is intense two-week training at NMLC, where I had to learn some tough animal husbnadry techniques like tube feeding and mantaining the water quality of every enclosure, which seemed like a lot at first but building a strong relationship with my supervisor and just constantly learning from her made feel really comfortable by the end of the training period

what makes you a good fit for this position/What are your biggest strengths/How can you contribute to research at the ocean genome legacy?

I think the main thing that makes me a good fit is my experience in intense work environments whether it be a fast paced kitchen, animal hospital or farming thousands of oysters per day which have really strengthened my work ethic as well as communication skills in small teams like yourselves and I think that combined with my really strong passion and curiosity for exploring the ocean will bring a dedicated and positive perspective to this laboratory.

I was really excited to get the chance to interview here and after talking to you guys and seeing the lab that excitement has definitely increased, think it is truly incredible how easy and accesible you've made marine life genome DNA

Why are you interested in this position? 2

Listening to you guys speak at the college of science co-op mixer and learning that there is need for innovating DNA preservation methods and that the co-op position would play a large role in help conducting that research is something I could see myself being fully invested in.

Why do you choose to have a minor in photogrpahy?

Mom teaching me how to use DSLR on road trips Nature Documentaries get out of my comfort zone and try new things

What have been your favorite and least favorite courses?

My favorite courses at Northeastern have been genetics and molecular biology and biology courses really enjoyed learning baout the central dogma of life kind of gave me a new perscpective and interest on science. And my least favorite are probably my writing courses because I am generally a slow writer and it takes a lot of time out of my day to write a 10 page paper for english class but do enjoy the creativity involved with fiction writing and get really invested in that.

What is your current knowledge on equipment used in molecular biology

PCR and Gel electropheresis DNA preservation: And I know that with preservation of DNA it is essential to have the most efficient protocol and techniques used correctly because the nucleotides are susceptible to degradation. And Are typically stored at freezing temperatures in an ethanol solution and sometimes liquid nitrogen.

What are you most actively involved in at school

So two organizations come to my mind, The first is a club called NET-impact, and phi delta theta mental health shit and more recently. I've also been spending a lot of time on a research proposal in my marine biology course with Dr. Duffy where I am focusing on how nutrients, specifically phosphorus can affect coral resilience to acidification.
