when molecules of a solvent pass through a semipermeable membrane from a less concentrated solution to a more concentrated solution, thus equalizing the concentrations on each side of the membrane - important in regulating concentration of solutes in plant cells

Countercurrent Exchange

when something is transferred between two flowing things in opposite directions ex: fish transfer oxygen from the surrounding water into their blood birds exchange heat from blood vessel to blood vessel to keep heat concentrated in their bodies

when the environment changes and organisms diversify rapidly, in order to fill every aspect of the niche

Biomagnification

when toxins are widely distributed through out organisms via eating other plants and animals who contain the toxins - fertilization - toxic chemicals - invasive species
