Property of Pressure in Fluids

An external pressure exerted on a fluid is transmitted uniformly throughout the volume of the fluid. Any change in the pressure applied at any given point on a confined liquid is transmitted undiminished through out the fluid.

SAMPLE PROBLEM: In hydraulic brake, a force of 80 N is applied to a piston with area of 4 cm2 . If the piston at the wheel cylinder has an area of 8 cm2 , what is the force exerted on it?

Answer: 160 N
