A (94.2%) Prueba: 90% (very high) oral/participation: super high Homework: excellent I know I can always count on Ava to be sweet and attentive She is an incredible, kind, empathetic person who is amazing at working with another student in our class who can be trickier to work with Positives: Shows leadership through consistent attentiveness and empathy and excellent immersion etiquette Models participation through balance and respect for others Models growth mindset and willingness to trust in others for help as well as providing help for others Demonstrated mastery of last subject in the quiz Constructives: Last exam was not representative of her mastery of the material (70. Mostly conjugations that are messed up) Let's work together using conjuguemos and also by meeting Tuesdays after school or at some point during the week to work on building a schema (aka overall structure of conjugations) I'm noticing what are called overextensions which means Ava's crazy bright and adept with figuring out logical rules that underlie language acquistion, but for that reason extends them too far These two steps will help ameliorate that

Matvey Goldberg (Inna and Ilya)

A+ (98.8) Perfect score on prueba Perfect homework score Highly above average reading quizzes P1 oral: 10 Positives: Goofy hilarious energy adds a ton to class- his emoji hat, for example, or his corrections of my corrections- he goes above and beyond and his dancing to the music in class makes everyone feel more comfortable Sheer work ethic and capacity to succeed within my class Prueba is perfect example of that Additionally, he hasn't missed a single homework assignment Commitment to really drilling down the rules shows through Constructives: Participation: quantity/ quality He's only participated 6 times in class so far (recently he's been doing so well! He answered a conjugation question out loud in class the other day and I really appreciated the guts it took to take that on!) His presentation was absolutely incredibly grammatically- elevated grammar and syntax but he mostly read the pres. Work on taking the internal and sharing it- try writing down an answer, or one time where you feel you could push along the class by volunteering each day, try to move it to two when you can.

A- (90.4) Prueba 1: 87 Great homework grade P1 oral: 9 Positives: Attentive and conscientious student I can always count on him to be listening attentively and I get a ton of eye contact- he's engaged in the lesson He never interrupts his peers and seems to be a warm presence as others are trying out spanish and making mistakes Perfect homework score and excellent reading quiz scores Constructives: Quantity of oral contributions I have down that he has contributed an answer about four times voluntarily so far I know that he knows the answer as much as his peers but he might not be comfortable speaking He told me in his reflection: "Spanish has always been one of my hardest classes at PRS, but I think the most positive thing has been learning a new language in the first place and being able to use it In Mexico and even around San Diego." Fabulous honesty and the REAL reason for taking this class Writing and reading are important but if you really find the rewarding part to be the speaking, let's find a way to work on that together! If you need to speak one time a class you can even write it down Additionally, if you want to meet with me one on one to practice speaking without judgment always see me during purpose period

Ex. presentation volunteered to go first and despite tech issues continued Also, he has the highest number (21) of independent voluntary contributions to class that I've marked down. Seriously impressive. But he also doesn't dominate. He's attentive to his peers. You wrote in your reflection: "I do get nervous about speaking in class but I also learn better from speaking in class. So please just force me to speak because I remember it more from speaking and making mistakes than from just writing it. " Impressive to do what you do despite fear. Consistency and diligence with homework! Hasn't missed a single assignment and has a great work ethic High score on reading quiz (90) which means he's doing really good close reading. Constructive: How are you studying for exams? 85 is an excellent score, but it seems to differ slightly from oral recall What sections did you find the most difficult? How can I help you form an effective study plan? How did the second one go?

Prueba 1: 80 (solid demonstration of skill, "careless errors") Prueba 2: 87 (fewer errors, solid demonstration of skill) Positives: Model of enthusiasm for the rest of the class When we were first going over imperfect and everyone else was super hesitant to say the endings out loud he was a champion for that Often will participate when no one else will Shows a dedication through his homework and his willingness to check in Solid demonstration of skill through his participation orally and in his homework Diligent, model student Constructives: Start to use your ability to hyperfocus in a more channeled way Sometimes it leads to a very well intentioned over competitiveness Sometimes it leads to fixation on mistakes (which is totally understandable) but I'd rather see you come to me to prepare so you can feel more positive during exams- if the recall is easier, it might be easier for you to feel confident instead of second guessing. You also might want to say- if I've tackled this problem with these steps and checked it once, I can move on But again- continue to use it as the strength it is to motivate the rest of the class to be like you!

Chloe Wardrup: Kathleen Griffin

A- (91.1) Prueba 1: 80 Prueba 2: 88 (wonderful performance!) Presentation: 97.5: one of the highest grades in all of my sections My advisee! I see her everywhere and that makes me very happy Positives: Grit and curiosity Incredible prueba performance: her first page of the exam was essentially clean, free of errors and only unrelated errors on the pret/imperfect but she showed mastery of these topics Always asks questions when we're going over grammatical concepts that show me she's engaged and genuinely curious about the material (abstract/analytic or clarifying questions) That make the classroom a better space for others Her preparation for her presentation set the bar, certainly- she should be proud of her resilience and commitment to sustainable, gradual improvement in her oral skills (risk-taking) Constructives: Honestly it was hard to come up with exactly what she needs to improve upon which is generally a good sign I think more attention to immersion etiquette and that mindset would lead to a rapid improvement in her abilities and her testing scores I.e. asking questions in spanish and not speaking english in class Sometimes she will translate into english what I'm explaining in class in an attempt to be helpful (which it is! In some ways) but ultimately forcing yourself to use those forms will make your advancement faster

Jordan Smith (Robert and Jacqueline)

A- (91.5%) Very high participation grade Prueba 1: 82% (solid score) P1 oral: 10 Socks haha Positives: Collaborative, Balanced, Empathetic and model leader for our class in terms of oral contributions Consistently volunteers but never discourages another Exceptionally conscientious of her presence in class and follows immersion etiquette Her presentation was excellent- she shined in her oral participation and watched those of others just as respectfully You said in your reflection that you feel you should be more fluent by now but you've already made huge strides and if you continue it's only going to get better from here! Constructives: How are you studying for your exams? You had such a solid preparation and although they're really quite good I see this as a possible area of improvement where/when/how frequently do you study? What do you do when you see a question with a verb conjugation fill in the blank? If you come see me once before an exam in purpose period for 10 min I can help fill in gaps and ensure that your grades on pruebas more accurately reflect you as a student

Absolutely hilarious in class- always makes everyone's experience more cheery Obviously once that went astray, but that positive, attentive energy is super powerful when harnessed for good Leader of his peers Always is willing to jump in and ask questions, guess the answer Just the other day when we were playing this game with a buzzer (really difficult, he threw himself into it with gusto and helped his peers participate as well) work -ethic Loved that he worked through his migraines (i get them too!) and came to me for help Constructive: Study strategies: How and in what environment are you studying? How do you study for other classes? Are you going through piece by piece? How is time management going? Difficult events make that hard I'm here purpose period, haven't seen him yet and would love to! Please come in and we can fix up issues. B (83.5) Prueba 1: 70 Prueba 2: 72 Reading quizzes: not so hot (50% average) Positives: Retroactive, balanced, empathic, resilient Empathic- he always looks out for others- during a game recently we were playing at the board, one student made a mistake and another student blamed them and JT stepped in and shut down the negativity- well done! Despite many external commitments, JT always checks in with me and makes sure he has everything handled and is very responsible Despite many difficult situations with having to miss class etc. he always bounces back with a great attitude to overcome obstacles Shows balance in his contributions in class- always waits attentively and ensures others have spoken but also isn't afraid to particpate Constructives: I worry that his study routines are not sufficiently suited for him individually and for this class How do you prepare for exams? What is your environment like? What is hardest for you to study? What is easiest for you to study? In other content heavy classes, how do you study? Is that mapping on here? Part of that would be seeing me for help in studying for exams and whenever a subject doesn't click immediately Part of that could be figuring out whether or not he needs to study in a way that replicates the exam so it's more easily retrievable when the exam happens

Nick Rosetta (Steve and Jackie)

B (84.9% ) Prueba 1: 79% (low but not super low) P1 oral: 8 Homework- some has been missing/late (we've emailed a lot) He said in his reflection he was generally a happy kid and I love that he's so smiley all over campus Positives: Courage, engagement He is bold with his in-class contributions and is always willing to try and try and try even if he's unsure which is a WONDERFUL quality He's curious and actively demonstrates it by asking questions and with his body language (nodding and watching the lesson/game attentively) Humble: incorporates feedback and accepts responsibility (with regards to his emails about homework) Trusting: sought me out the other day to go over our homework on pret/imp and it was really productive Constructive: Let's talk organization/thinking about my class! What's your organization system? Do you have a planner? Walk me through how you'd study for an exam. How can we do this more efficiently? when/where/environment.

Nadia Al-Faraje (Rena and Dr. Al-F)

B (86.9) Prueba (78.5 but her retake was an 89!!) Homework: nothing missing P1 Oral: 8/10 solid score!! Decent reading quiz scores Positives: Grit and vulnerability are out of this world Willingness to admit you need help/patience and trust in hard work/growth mindset/maturity in general She wrote in her reflection: "extremely nervous" about speaking and even contacted me before the start of the year Look at how far you've come! Holy crap! We can see this grit and humility in her retake score: 89: she grinded it out for studying and it shows in a good way Constructive: Still could work on participating more: but that's not to say it's a problem now, just rather to say that this should continue to be an area of focus. Mega proud so far of her progress, but if she can try to volunteer once a class on her own, that would be excellent Questions: How can I help you feel more comfortable speaking in class? I would absolutely love to see those grow and evolve with all the capacity you have to speak in class You said in your reflection: "It is harder for me to understand if I am speaking it or reading it." but you've done well with both so far and the year is long- if you keep working at making more frequent and slightly more elaborate contributions, your spanish will improve dramatically Questions: How do you feel about the level of interactivity in class?
