What is the difference between Guidance (sometimes called discipline) and Punishment? Give 5 indicators for each.

Guidance or discipline is considered as an ongoing system by which adults help children learn to manage their impulses, express feelings, channel frustrations, solve problems, and learn the difference between acceptable and unacceptable behavior. As punishment is referred to as the act of inflicting a penalty for an offense or behavior. Guidance is the more appropriate response as it doesn't down grade the child or make the child even more upset. These two are similar as they are a response to an unpleasant behavior. However, there are more differences that make these two a clear cut different meanings. The goal of guidance is to teach the child how to handle those impulses while as punishments goal is to penalize a child's behavior. Another difference is the attitude sourced with each word. When we think of punishment we see the child as doing something wrong, however the child may not know how to control that behavior. But, when we hear the word guidance we approach the child in a whole different manner. With guidance you are also teaching the child self-discipline and self-control. As punishment is teaching children through fear.
