Legitimate- formal. Employees will do as she requests because her position requires it. Reward- formal. Reward employees for doing what is requested of them. Coercive- formal. punish employees for not doing what was requested of them. *Expert- personal. power is perceived in an individual, who is a subject matter expert. *Referent- personal. possess personal characteristics that make others want to be like them. Not necessarily do anything to earn their power; it is more about personality traits. Informational- leader possessing information. Once the information has been shared, the power is gone. Short-term, does not allow for continuing influence.
What are some tools for use in the controlling management function?
Performance appraisals- set individual job performance standards. Monitor for the period and correct and deviations. Benchmarking- obtain data for key indicators from other similar org's and compare their performance against the benchmarked data. Department budget- used as a control tool. If the budget deviates + or - 2%, the supervisor must justify variances. Dashboard- report of progress measures. Helps leaders follow progress to assist with strategic planning. Scorecard- reports the outcome of measures to help leaders know what they have accomplished. Long-term report.
