-oil on canvas -not actually taking place at night/ just really dark -made for the head quarters of a military company/ malista -large scale group portraiture - uses a lot of action painting ( in motion) / so its not boring -symbolism/ portriature/ social class/ girl in the back is considered a mascot

-oil on canvas -scene of total revery -showing a moment a feast of the 3 kings -festival were things are all out order -not a renaissance ideal, it is people making a foolish decision -could be an allegory of all the senses -painting of real people

-oil on canvas -we have to work for the meaning -picture of last judgement in the background -the woman is possibly judging how much her jewels way possibly or is it the weight of her soul -suttaly talks about religion unlike renaissance

-oil on panel -all objects in the painting are real objects -represents how we see the world/ way of seeing the world -paintings of collection -collecting worldly objects, showing off wordly knowledge -painting of sight is in it (jesus healing the blind) -not only an allegory of sight / but a spiritual as well -specialization as a genre -not typical in italy / typical in the north

Peter Paul Rubens, Raising of the Cross

-oil on panel -intended to be seen at the high altar in the church ( focual point) -represents the rising of the cross -really dramatic / action pact ( sense of motion due to body moving) -originally for the church of st. walburga -continous 3 panels -working with mannerist tradition for the bodies -quoting the laocoon sculpture group -overwhelming you with power of the church
