Atom Test 4.1 and 4.3 , Part 3
What is an orbital?
A region in which an electron is most likely to be.
Niels Bohr
Danish physicist, who showed that electrons can be found only in certain energy levels, or regions around the nucleus.
What must happen to an electron in order for it to move to a higher energy level?
Electrons must gain energy to move to a higher energy level.
Why didn't scientist use Bohr's atomic model to describe all the elements?
His model only worked for hydrogen. Some of the other scientists realized that other elements were better described by combing Bohr's ideas about energy levels with ideas about probability.
Bohr's model only worked for what elements?
Hydrogen
If a electron moves form the third energy level to a second energy level, has it gained or lost energy?
It must have lost energy, if it moved to a lower level..
In Bohr's model
electrons orbited the nucleus like planets orbit a star.
