Jesus calls twelve disciples, and gives them authority to cast out unclean spirits and preach the kingdom of God (6:7, 12), effectively becoming extensions of Jesus' ministry. What might a disciple in this situation think being a disciple is about?
A disciple might think that it is about serving Jesus and not God and it's about expelling unclean spirits and not about trusting in God Verses are exceptions: acting like Jesus & preaching. Irony: disciples were supposed to be THE insiders but they're the biggest outsiders

Mark 14-15 is the passion narrative. During their last meal together (Passover, and Last Supper), what does Jesus predict the disciples will do (particularly Judas and Peter)? How might this relate to Mark's audience?
During Passover, Jesus predicts that one of his disciples will betray him. Right before, Judas goes in front of the chief priests to betray him for money. Jesus also predicts that Mark will lie n it's something about a crow cawing 3 times n him lying 3 times. Mark writes to a Roman audience, maybe this signifies that the Jewish are ones who would betray their own? <- i'm not sure lol

The confession was ironic in that the centurion recognizes who Jesus is, when the disciples did not. Then a voice comes from the clouds saying, "This is my Son, the Beloved, listen to him!". On their way down, Jesus tells them not to tell anyone yet.
Explain the concept of insiders vs. outsiders.
Insiders know that Jesus is the Messiah and the Son of God all throughout the book and we, the readers, are the insiders because it is stated that Jesus is God's son in the beginning and end of Mark. The disciples are the outsiders because they never fully grasp that Jesus is the Son of God and even though they are the closest to Jesus, they're still the farthest away.

Jesus begins by going north proving himself as a messiah by doing miracles and he get's baptized and tempted by satan, he's letting people know who he is. Jesus then asks his disciples, "Who do you say that I am?" (8:29) and Peter said that he is the messiah (the northern most point). Jesus begins to travel to Jerusalem, back down south, and begins his suffering servant and discipleship-ness.
In 8:27-30, after Peter's rebuke, why does Jesus call Peter "Satan"?
Jesus calls Peter Satan because Peter can't comprehend that Jesus will suffer and die and that represent Satan because of the earthly view. Peter is just thinking about man and not about God and his plan.

Jesus is arrested for blasphemy
In Mark 4, why does Jesus say he speaks in parables? To whom does he explain the parables and why? Why is this ironic?
Jesus speaks in parables because they are able to understand it, everyone except for the disciples. What term was used for Jesus telling people and unclean spirits to not talk about his identity?
Messianic secret - Bc ppl in israel knew him as a conquering king and not.a suffering servant
In Mark 8:27-30, Jesus interrogates the disciples about His identity. Peter ultimately answers, "You are the Messiah." Jesus sternly tells the disciples not to tell anyone about His identity. Jesus then makes His first passion prediction, after which Peter rebukes Jesus. Why does Peter rebuke Jesus? On what is Peter basing his confession of Jesus as Messiah?

Do the disciples understand what it means to be the messiah? Do they understand what it means to be a disciple? Provide evidence.
They understand messiah as the conquering king and not as a suffering servant. They don't understand what it means to be a disciple either because when Jesus says he'd going to die they just ask him which one of them is going to be his right hand man and they're always outsiders.
With exception of Mark 6:7, 12, how are the disciples portrayed? Why is this depiction ironic?
They're portrayed as people who don't understand Jesus and his teachings and it's ironic because as Jesus's disciples they should be the people who understand Jesus and what he says the most.
In 8:27-10:45, how does the Evangelist depict Jesus' suffering and sacrifice as examples for disciples to follow? Again, provide textual evidence to justify your response.
Through these chapters, Jesus makes it clear what he is about to endure. He constantly tells his disciples of his unfortunate future. He explains to them that the suffering will eventually change them into prospering. In Mark 8:35, Jesus says, " For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it."
