Submucosa layer

Dense irregular Areolar connective tissue Esophageal glands are found here Name the layer

Hepatic capsule

Dense irregular CT bordering the liver. Name the feature (3)

Submucosa

Dense irregular connective tissue is found here Areolar connective tissue is found here Esophageal glands are found here Name the layer

Villi

Fingerlike projections of the mucosa of small intestine into the lumen.

Plicae circulares (s: plica circularis)

Folds of the intestinal wall. Core is submucosa.

Submucosa

Known as the core of the ruga Name the feature

Lamina propria

Known as the core of the villis What is 16?

Lamina propria

Layer of areolar CT, between the epithelium & muscularis of the mucosa.

Hepatic triad

Located in the upper left hand corner

Taeniae coli

Longitudinal ribbons of smooth muscle that after the outer longitudinal layer

Lamina propria

Made of areolar connective tissue

Submucosal plexus

Made of nervous tissue and the muscularis mucosa

Muscularis mucosa

Made of smooth muscle Contains the Inner circular layer and the outer longitudinal layer Name the layer

Stomach layers

Mucosa Muscularis mucosa Submucosa Muscularis externa

General layers of the GI tract & esophagus

Mucosa Submucosa muscularis externa Outer serosa or adventitia

Esophageal glands

Name the feature

Branch of hepatic artery

Name the feature (2)

Hepatic sinusoids

Name the feature (S)

Villis

Name the feature (V)

Mucosa layer of the esophagus

Non-keratinized stratified squamous epithelium Lamina propria Muscularis mucosa

Adventitia

Outer layer of the rectum, surrounding the thick muscularis externa.

Jejunum

Part of small intestine with exceptionally long villi. Increasingly greater proportion of goblet cells. Relatively few glands and little lymphatic tissue in submucosa.

Duodenum

Part of small intestine with relatively short "leaf-like" villi. Relatively few number of goblet cells.

Large intestine

Part of the GI tract that contains intestinal crypts, but no villi. Contains lymphatic tissue in the submucosa. Abundant goblet cells. Reduced microvilli.

Ileum

Part of the small intestine with relatively short villi. Contains prominent LYMPHATIC TISSUE. Higher proportion of goblet cells.

Simple columnar epithelium

Primary tissue type lining the GI tract. Allows absorption of water & nutrients from the lumen.

Duodenal glands

Prominent exocrine glands within the submucosa of the part of the small intestine that contains relatively short villi.

Non-keratinized stratified squamous epithelium

Tissue type adjacent to the lumen of the esophagus

Hepatocytes

[*]

Gastric glands

[12] Deeper, enclosed extensions of gastric pits

Intestinal crypts

[1] Invaginations found between villi

Gastric pits

[2] Invaginations of the stomach mucosa

Central vein

[B]

Lymphatic tissue

[yellow circles] Prominent within the ileum as well as in the submucosa of the large intestine.

Serosa

outer layer of the esophagus, surrounding the muscularis externa Name the layer

Myenteric Plexus

Found within the muscularis externa Name the feature

Muscularis Externa

Inner circular layer and outer longitudinal layer is found here Name the layer?
