Biology
According to your results, what is the effect of enzyme concentration of reaction rate? Explain, and be specific.
By increasing the enzyme concentration , the maximum rate greatly increases.
Mention at least two pigments in plants
Chlorophylls, carotenoids, phycobilins
What is fermentation?
Is a process by which some organisms convert food molecules to energy in the absence oxygen.
What effect does temperature have on reaction rate when an enzyme is involved?
Temperature effects, like most reactions , the rate of an enzyme-catalyze reaction increases as the temperature is raised. A ten degree centigrade rise in temperature will increase the activity of most enzymes by 50 to 100% (37c-RT)
Why did the dye diffuse faster in hot water?
Temperature of a substance is related to how fast the molecules are vibrating. Therefore, in the hot water the molecules were vibrating. Therefore, in the hot water the molecules were vibrating faster than they were in the cold water. This causes the dye in the hot water to actually diffuse or move through out the water more quickly.
In the experiment what would have happened in the osmosis experiment if the water in the beaker was isotonic compared with apricot? Why?
The apricot neither swells nor shrinks because there is no concentration gradient to induce the diffusion of large amounts of water across the fruit.
Fermentation and yeast. (Lab 13) What caused the ballon to increase in size?
The increase was caused by the alcoholic fermentation; CO2 (carbon dioxide) gas expanded into the ballon.
In the experiment which way did the water move? What would have happened if the water in the beaker contained a high sucrose solution? Why?
The water moved into the apricot. It can change the solutions concentration but not volume. Since the solvent (water) is in a greater quantity as compared to the dissolved solute. Hence volume of the solution remains constant but there is change in overall concentration of solution, because solution= solute+solvent. (More sugar in water so no osmosis)
2 types of fermentation
alcoholic fermentation and lactic acid fermentation. they produce ethanol, and another produces lactic acid.
Define spectrophotometer
an apparatus for measuring the intensity of light in a part of the spectrum, especially as transmitted or emitted by particular substances.
what wavelength is most effective for plant growth? y?
higher absorbance is most effective for plant growth.
what wavelength is least effective for plant growth? y?
lower absorbance least effective for plant growth.
