Design Thinking Process (5 Steps)

1 EMPATHIZE 2 DEFINE 3 IDEATE 4 PROTOTYPE 5 TEST

Two Steps to Define the Problem

1 Put together the information gathered in the empathy stage 2 Examine in various ways to determine the core problem

Ideate Stage

All about bringing together various perspectives to generate "outside the box" thinking and solutions

TEST STAGE IN A NUTSHELL

All about testing and refining the prototypes to create the right solution for the user

Prototype (In an nutshell)

All about using the solutions created in the ideation process to create a scaled-down product or solution

EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENS IN THE IDEATE STAGE THAT IS UNIQUE TO THE DESIGN THINKING PROCESS.

Brings together many different perspectives to create and build on new ideas

Prototype

Design team produces inexpensive scaled-down versions of the product / solution...or just some of the features Purpose → to investigate the solutions created in the ideation stage

HOW IS DESIGN THINKING DIFFERENT FROM TYPICAL PROBLEM SOLVING STRATEGIES?

Design thinking is intended to get people out of their typical ways of thinking so as to generate outside of the box ideas and solutions

EXPLAIN HOW THE DESIGN THINKING PROCESS IS NOT A LINEAR PROCESS.

Each stage may reveal new information or insights that send the team back to a previous stage

Design thinking

Method of understanding human needs by reframing a problem in human-centric ways

DESCRIBE THE PURPOSE OF BOTH THE PROTOTYPING AND TESTING STAGES.

Prototyping: creating a scaled down version of the product or solution from the ideation stage and testing on a very small group Testing: creating a "final" design and initiating wider scale testing

Empathy

The ability to understand and share the feelings of others -You need an empathetic understanding of the problem you are trying to solve -Consult experts, observe, engage to understand, immerse yourself in their environment

WHAT IS EMPATHY AND WHY IS IT A CRUCIAL STEP IN THE DESIGN THINKING PROCESS?

Truly understanding the feelings of the user. You cannot create something to serve a person if you do not understand them
