Waxing Gibbous --3/4 of the right side of the moon is showing 5. Full Moon --all the the moon is showing 6. Waning Gibbous --3/4 of the left side of the moon is showing 7. Third Quarter --1/2 of the left side of the moon is showing 8. Warning Cresent --1/4 of the left side of the moon is showing

How long does it take for the Moon to revolve around the Earth?

27.3 days

Tides occur how many minutes later each day.

50 minutes

What is natural satellite?

A natural satellite or moon is a celestial body that orbits a planet.

How do we determin a planets day and year?

A planetary year is the time it takes for the planet to complete one complete orbit around the sun. A day is determined by the amount of time that it takes the planet to make one full rotation on its axis.

What is the spring tide and when does it occur?

A spring tide is when the effects of the Sun and Moon work together to bring extreme tides. A spring tide happens during a full and new moon.

What are the specific differences between solar and lunar eclipses?

During a Solar Eclipse the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun. The Sun is obscured, and part of the earth is placed in the Moon's shadow. During a Lunar Eclipse the Moon passes into the Earth's shadow, and is obscured in darkness.

How is the gravity on the moon different than the gravity on Earth?

Earth's Gravity Keeps us down on the ground. There is less Gravity on the moon so you can jump really high.

How does the moon's gravity effect life on earth?

It pulls on our oceans, creating high and low tides.

What is the line up of the planetary bodies for a solar and lunar eclipse?

Solar-- Sun--Moon--Earth Lunar--Moon--Earth--Sun

What Features of Earth make it a perfect planet for life?

Temperature, Ozone, and Atmosphere.

What eclipse can be viewed by more people? Why is this?

The Lunar is viewed by more people because the Earth's shadow is bigger than the moons.

Why doesn't the sun's gravity have a greater effect on the tides as the moon's gravity does?

The Moon has a greater effect on earth's tides than the sun because the moon is much closer to the earth than the sun.

Explain why tides change? for example, why isn't it high tide all the time?

The tides change because the gravitational pull from the Moon onto Earth. The Moons gravity pulls the water toward the moon. The Side of Earth facing the moon has a high tides. The Pull of gravity causes Oceans to bulge outward. On the other side of Earth, the Moons pull on solid ground causes the Oceans to bulge there too. The Earth rotates on its axis and so this bulge is constantly changing location. Where the bulge is bigger, its high tide. Where the water doesn't bulge is low tide.

Why do we have tides?

They are created by the gravitional attraction of the Earth and the Moon and the Earth and the Sun.

How were the craters on the moon formed?

are formed by the impact of asteroids and other objects in space.

Explain why it appears that the sun moves across the sky everyday?

because the earth is spinning on an axis.

What causes the different moon phases?

is determined by the relative positions of the Sun, Earth, and the Moon.

How long do each of the following lost on Earth, rotation, revolution, and orbit?

rotation--24 hours---revolution--1 year---orbit--1 year

What causes the seasons?

the yearly revolution of the Earth around the Sun and the tilt of the Earth's axis relative to the plane of revolution.
