when you are showing that you have left out a part of a quotation that otherwise appears to be a complete sentence; only use when you have left out the middle of the quotation. Put it directly after the last word of the quote you want to include.

What do you do if you have a quote within a quote (meaning there are quotation marks in the novel and then you have to put quotation marks around them)?
