~After Holden goes home he eventually goes into a mental hospital ~Holden will go back to school in September ~His story is told when Holden is in a mental hospital in california ~DB brings along a college babe and talks to Holden about how he feels about people in his situation ~He told his story to a psychoanalyst and is sorry b/c he is sharing many private personal experiences with others and sharing what caused him to miss the people he spoke about even more

~Carl Luce was an academic advisor back at Whooten and talks about sex ~Holden thinks he's gay and makes an effort to see him because he wants to talk to someone ~Carl thinks Holden should see a psychologist

Chapter 3

~Holden bought a red hat in New York after losing the foils for the fencing team ~Ackley is Holden's neighbor, gross, smelly and doesn't give others personal space ~Stradlater is Holden's roommate, full of himself, careless slob and with people's feelings

~Holden goes to Agerstown to see a movie, but ends up going to play ping- ball ~Holden writes Stradlater's composition on Allie's baseball mitt ~Allie is Holden's brother. He is intelligent, and an innocent brother ~Allie died from leukemia in 1946

~Holden is worrying how Stardlater's date with Jane went ~Stradlater does not like the composition because it is not about a house and is annoyed ~Holden tries to ask how Stardlaters date went ending in a fight and Holden getting beat up

~Holden talks to Allie when he is depressed after Sunny leaves, and Holden feels guilty because he excluded him once and wants to jump out the window but wouldn't because he's a coward and doesn't want the attention like James Castle did ~Holden's religious beliefs is he says he is an atheist

~Holden thinks the christmas show at radio city music hall is phoney and stupid ~Holden thinks that he would rather die than serve in war. If a war came he would sit on top of the bomb and explode with it and is depressed

Chapter 16

~Holden walks down Broadway looking for a record store b/c he wants to get phoebe a gift ~the little boy sings "'comin' through the rye" and makes him feel less depressed ~Holden does not like movies or shows because he thinks they are pointless and doesn't like actors b/c he thinks there phonies ~Holden likes the museum so much because everything seemed right and always stayed the same all the time and hates change

Chapter 13

~Holden would get his gloves in a non-violent way because he is a coward ~When Holden goes back to the hotel he is depressed and lonely ~On the elevator, Maurice a pimp asks holden if he wants to order a prositute. Sunny goes to his room for sex but Holden gets depressed thinking about her line of work and b/c of her green dress. When she leaves her gives her $5 but was told she works for $10. Then Maurice comes up demanding $5 more and beats Holden up

Chapter 22

~Holdens explanation for why her flunked out of school was the people were mean and phony ~James Castle was a young boy at Elkton who jumped out of a window and committed suicide because he was tormented by mean boys who beat him up ~Holden likes talking to Phoebe and Allie and Phebe isn't satisfied with his answer because Allie is dead ~Holden's dad is a lawyer who makes a lot of money and plays golf ~Holden would like to be the 'catcher' in the rye protecting children so they don't fall into adulthood

Chapter 12

~Horowitz is a cab driver, and they talk about where the fish go during the winter ~Ernie is a piano player and expects him to be full of him self and only talks to important people, Holden wants to talk to him because he is lonely ~Lillian Simmons is DB's ex girlfriend and is a phoney. Lillian and her date ruined his time because he doesn't want to hang with them

Chapter 23

~Mr. Antolini is Holdens former teacher at Elton Hills and is not a phony ~Phobe give Holden money and cries because he is depressed and lonely ~Holden decides to go to Mr. Antolini's for his parents to process the info of him being kicked out of another school

Chapter 24

~Mr. Antolini lecture Holden about his future and the difference between Mr. A and Mr. S's lectures are Holden opens up more to Mr. A about Pencey Prep ~Wilhem Stekel is a psychologist and Mr. A quotes this writing to make Holden see his point ~After Mr. A wakes Holden by stroking his head and makes Holden feel betrayed and dirty.

Chapter 2

~Mr. Spencer was a history teacher, and is the only teacher Holden likes and feels bad for him. He reads Holden the essay to him to embarrass him. Holden admits he wasn't interested in the egyptians and didn't mind failing ~Whooton Hills and Elton Hills are Holden's old schools full of phonies and holden didn't like them and got kicked out of school

Chapter 8

~Mrs. Marrow was an older women who ends up being the mother of his former classmate. Holden ends up lying about him about how popular he is, etc.. ~When Mrs. Marrow asks why Holden is on the train he says he is going into the city for a brain tumor operation

Chapter 21

~Phoebe is thrilled to see Holden by bursting with energy b/c she missed him and explains that she's in a play ~Phoebe throws the pillow over her head when she realizes Holden was kicked out of school

Chapter 15

~Sally Hayes is Holden's ex girlfriend and only thinks she's pretty but doesn't like her and thinks she's phony ~Holden thinks of Dick Slagle because his raggedy suitcases reminded him of the nuns suitcases and also felt bad for him ~Holden respects the nuns and are good listeners and gives then ten dollars because of their suitcases and feels bad for them

Chapter 4

~Stardlater asks Holden to write his composition for his english class because he is going on a date with Jane Gallager ~ Jane is Holdens old neighbor and best friend, he is upset that Stardlater is dating her b/c he is worried and jealous

Chapter 25

~When Holden leaves Mr. A he goes to Grand Central Station ~After reading the article in the magazine he belives he has cancer ~he can't eat the doughnuts b/c he can't swallow them ~While Holden is walking is walking he starts to think the streets are wider, further, and thought someone was following him ~Holden's plan is to hitchhike out west ~Holden goes to Phobes school because he wants to see Phobe one last time before leaving ~In the school the writing on the wall is offensive to Holden b/c he finds it offensive and innocent children will be exposed to it ~Holden gets along with the boys b/c he brings the boys to the mummy exhibit ~Holden yells at Phone b/c she wants to run away with him but he doesn't want her to ~Holden changes his mind about running away b/c Phobe gets upset ~Holden and Phone go to the zoo and when Phobe goes on the carrousel it makes him happy b/c it represents life and how phoebe is growing up

Chapter 20

~holden pretends he is wounded at the bar ~Holden is blind when he calls sally because she gets angry when he calls her at night ~after Holden leaves the bar he drops the record and it breaks ~Holden missed Allies funeral b/c he was recovering at the hospital from punching the window because of allies death
