Microcidal chemicals are chemicals that are designed to kill microbes. Microstatic chemicals prevent microbial growth. Zone of inhibition is an area of no growth around an antibiotic agent. Antibiotics are chemicals produced by an organism, as opposed to antiseptics which can be synthetic, that can kill another organism. Because antibiotic are produced by living organisms they are called natural products. Mueller Hinton agar is an agar that can easily diffuse antibiotics to demonstrate resistance and inhibition in Kirby Bauer tests. Kirby Bauer tests are used to determine effectiveness of antibiotics. Pyramidine dimers are formations caused by UV exposure that distort DNA thereby inhibiting DNA replication and interfering with cell division. That's how uv exposure leads to melanoma.

What's the difference between Disinfectants and antiseptics

Disinfectants are too harsh for use on living tissue. Antiseptics may be used on living tissue.

Describe the zone of inhibition

If an antibiotic stops the bacteria from growing or kills the bacteria, there will be an area around the wafer where the bacteria have not grown enough to be visible. This is called a zone of inhibition. The size of this zone depends on how effective the antibiotic is at stopping the growth of the bacterium.
