Plant and Animal Cells , Prokaryotic vs Eukaryotic Cells
Eukaryote
A cell that contains a nucleus and membrane bound organelles
Cell
A membrane bound structure that is the basic unit of life
Cell wall
A rigid structure made of cellulose that surrounds the cells of plants
Lysosomes
An organelle containing digestive enzymes
How animal and plant cells are alike
Both have a nucleus and organelles.
Cells
Building blocks for living things. Have a nucleus and organelles. The 2 kinds are plant and animal.
Centrioles/centrosomes
Centrosomes produce spindle fibers during cell division to divide up the DNA equally into the two new cells.
Chloroplasts
Chloroplasts are found inside the Cytoplasm. They are large green structures. They capture energy from sunlight and use it to produce food for the cell.
Animal cells
Have a cell membrane, not a cell wall. Animal cells can move.
Plant cells
Have a cell wall and chloroplasts. Plant cells can make their own food.
eukaryotic#
Notice the nucleus and all the membrane bound organelles. This is an animal cell because there is no cell wall and no chloroplasts.
prokaryotic#
Notice there is no nucleus and no membrane-bound organelles. There are ribosomes for making proteins.
Organelle
One of several bodies with a specialized function that is suspended in the cytoplasm of the cell (mitochondria, nucleus, ribosomes, lysosomes, cytoplasm, cell membrane, chloroplast, vacuole, endoplasmic reticulum, DNA)
Cell membrane
Outside layer of animal cells that can move.
How animal and plant cells are different
Plant cells have a cell wall and can make their own food. Animal cells have a cell membrane and can move.
Vacuole
Plant cells have large Vacuole and animal cells have small but they are both floating in the cytoplasm. They are round water filled sac that is the storage aera of a cell. They store food, waste , and water.
Ribosomes
Ribosomes are grainlike bodies that float in the cytoplasm. they are "factories" to produce protiens. They release some proteins through the wall of the endoplamic reticulum and then transpoted to the Golgi bodies.
Cell Membrane
SInce a animal cell does not have a wall, the Cell Membrane forms a barrier between the cytoplasm and the enviroment. There is tiny pores that allow harmful waste to leave the cell and food and oxygen to enter.
Cell Wall
The Cell Wall is a non-living material that surrounds the cells. It is made of tough, flexible flexible material ( cellulose) It helps protect and support the cell. It gives the cell a box- like shape.
Cytoplasm
The region of the cell between the cell membrane and the nucleus, fluid, chemical reactions occurr here.
prokaryote
all are unicellular (one-celled)
both contain this
contain genetic material (DNA)
eukaryotoes!
contain genetic material in a nucleus
Chloroplast
contains chlorophyll and is the site of photosynthesis
Animal Cell
does not have a chloroplast or cell wall. Round in shape
eukaryotic@
has a nucleus
prokaryote*
has a single circular strand of DNA
eukaryotes%
has many straight strands of DNA
prokaryote$
has no membrane bound organelles
both have this around
have cell membrane
eukaryotoes@
have membrane-bound organelles
both have these
have ribosomes
prokaryotic@
include archae and eubacteria
prokaryote&
includes bacteria
eukaryote
includes protists, fungi, plants, and animals
prokaryote%
is the simplest of the two cell types
eukaryotic
more structurally complex; have specialized compartments where various reactions can take place
prokaryotes
no membrane-bound organelles
prokaryotic
no nucleus
Plant Cell
square shaped and contains cell wall and chloroplast and contains one large vacuole.
eukaryotoes!
unicellular or multicellular
