Compound Machine
A combination of two or more simple machines.
inclined plane
A flat surface set at an angle that can be used to move an object to a lower or higher plane.
wheel and axle
A rod attached to a wheel. It makes it easier to move or turn things.
lever
A stiff bar that moves about a fixed point (fulcrum). It is a simple machine that is used to push, pull, or lift things.
pulley
A wheel with a grooved rim in which a rope can run to change the direction of the pull and lift a load.
screw
An inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder or cone. Commonly used to hold objects together.
