standard error & probability
when is standard error used?
Standard error is used in inferential stats to see whether the sample stat that we get from one sample is larger or smaller than the average differences of the stat (variance or error) of certain stat due to chance.
standard error of the mean
standard deviation of the sampling distribution of the given statistic. Measure of how much random variation we would expect from equally distributed samples. Predictive of population mean. Less error, bigger sample . Randomly sampling, calculate mean, return to population.
difference between stdev and standard error
standard error is standard devaition of the means of each sample. Standard deviation is an individual scores distance from the mean.....(always standard deviation of population)
standard error measures?
standard error measures the confidence in the result in order to make inference about the population. variability marker
standard error formula
standard error of the sample: s/s/sqrt n stdev of population= stdev/sqrt of N smaller standard error= more confidence that sample is more representative of population
