Unit 9 Test Review Material
What are the different roles of the organisms (producer vs. consumer) on a food chain/web?
A consumer eats a producer.
Understand where and how producers, consumers, and decomposers get their energy. Who makes their food? Who eats other plants and animals?
A producer is a plant or organism that can make their own food through photosynthesis. A consumer is an organism that cannot make its own food. A living thing that gets energy by eating plants and other animals. A decomposer is a living thing that gets energy by eating plants and other animals. (Ex. Mushrooms, earthworms, and bacteria). Producers make food. Consumers and decomposers eat other plants and animals.
Understand that organisms play many roles in their ecosystem.
A tree can provide oxygen, shelter, and food for animals.
What is a food web?
Consists of many food chains. it follows the paths of many plants and animals.
How are food chains and food webs similar and different?
Food chain follow one path vs food web follows many paths.
Consumer Ex.
Frog, elephant
Explain how energy is transferred in a food chain or food web using a diagram.
Grass (Producer) - Grasshopper (Primary Consumer) - Frog (Secondary Consumer) - Python (Tertiary Consumer)
Understand how changes in a food chain or food web could potentially affect other organisms in the food chain or food web?
If a part of the food chain is missing the it stresses the rest of the food chain by not having enough to support it.
Decomposer
Mushrooms, bacteria, and fungus
Producer Ex
Oak tree, algae
What is the process called that producers use to make their food?
Photosynthesis
What is a food chain?
Show how each living organism gets its food. It shows who is eating who. It follows only one path as animals find food.
What does a plant need in order for photosynthesis to occur?
Water, sunlight, and carbon dioxide.
Decomposers
a living thing that gets energy by eating plants and other animals.
Producer
a plant or organism that can make their own food through photosynthesis
Consumer
an organism that cannot make its own food. A living thing that gets energy by eating plants and other animals.
Review phases of a life cycle of an insect:
egg, larva, pupa, and adult.
