As many reasons as possible why Black people migrated to northern cities in large numbers between 1890 and 1914.
The Great Migration was the massive relocation of blacks from the south to the north after the civil war. A really great book to read is James Grossman's "Land of Hope". There are so many details about this migration that the book covers, more than I could ever type here. The migration affected the urban life of blacks and whites in the north, as well as the lives of people in the south who suddenly found whole areas devoid of a working population. It also changed the future of industrial America forever, as more blacks moved to the northwest into factory jobs and assembly line work.
The intention behind the creation of Black Codes?
The main purpose of the legislation was to stabilize the black workforce by compelling African Americans to work and by limiting their economic options ... The laws aimed to replace the social controls of slavery, which had been legally swept away by the Emancipation Proclamation and the Thirteenth Amendment, and to reinstate the substance of the slave system without the legal form. An "act to define and declare the rights of persons lately knownas Slaves, and Free Persons of Color" refers to which law or laws passed after the Civil War? ←Part of a question?
