Frank blood - large amounts indicate bleeding or hemorrhage from the colon - smaller amounts of blood that comefrom higher in the digestive tract, such as the stomach, having been partially digested, will have a distictive old blood odor and a black, tarry appearance known as melena.

generally indicates inflammation or infection of the intestinal mucosa, such as ulcerative colitis. Stools may appear to be coated with mucus or look slimy and show traces of blood or pus.
Steatorrhea
refers to stool containing an abnormally high amount of undigested fat. This will appear fluffy, float on water, and have foul odor. May occur as a result of a malabsorption disorder such as Crohn's disease
The typical stool :
soft, formed, light yellowish-brown to dark brown, slightly odiferous, and falls slightly into a curved shape
Prolonged transient time is short
