SpeedGrader

An application within canvas that allows teachers to quickly grade and comment on student work using a variety of methods.

Commons

An area within Canvas where you can search for content to add to your course. You can also share content to this area for others to use.

Calendar

Automatically generated whenever an assignment or event is added to the course, or you can create assignments directly from here. It can be synced with most major systems.

Home Page

If set, this is where students will enter the course.

Course Navigation

List of links on the left that go to places within the course. These can be hidden but you will usually see links such as gradebook, modules, assignments, and Quizzes.

Coming Up Feed

Shows what activities are going to be started soon. (Located on the sidebar)

Recent Feedback

Students will see notifications when work has been graded or commented on. (Located on the sidebar)

LTI tools

These are external applications that can be used in Canvas

Announcements

This is a quick way for teachers to send a message to all students and parents that are following.

Discussions

This is an area to create interactive forums that may be graded

Rich Content Editor

This is the area that teachers and students can type in when creating in Canvas

Gradebook

This is the at a glance area for student scoring. Students will see a list of assignments, grades and due dates for themselves. Teachers will be able to view all student scores, organize, and view individual students.

Inbox

This is where you will receive messages from students and teachers. This is a great way to safely keep in touch with students.

Course Card

a link to a course that can include up to four tabs, which represent the four main Canvas features for student course activity: Announcements, Assignments, Discussions, and Files. To enter a course, all you need to do is click it.

Global Navigation

a static menu located on the left side of every page in Canvas. It's links provide quick access to frequently used Canvas features like your User Account settings, the Dashboard, all your Courses and Groups, the Calendar, Inbox, and the Help menu. This is the same for students and teachers.

Modules

allow you to organize your content to help control the flow of your course. You can organize course content by weeks, units, or a different organizational structure that works for your course.

Quizzes

assessment tool that can be modified in many ways to assess learning, and generate data.

Dashboard

main landing page in Canvas and displays the course cards for all your favorite courses. As well as global announcements for your institution and a global activity stream that shows recent activity across all of your courses.

ToDo

teacher's display student submissions and the number of submissions, allowing quick prioritization, access, and grading. Students display assignments that need to be turned in. (Located on the sidebar)

Sidebar

view and access the dynamic To Do list, upcoming events, recent feedback, and grades. These features keep students and teachers on track and organized. This is the same for students and teachers.
