Boom

A beam or spar pivoting at the foot of the mast of a derrick controlling the distance from the mast the load is being raised or lowered

Preventer

A line used to keep from the boom from suddenly swinging

Pair of horizontal struts attached to a sailing ships mast to spread the rigging, especially at the head of the top mast

Permanently installed line/cable that leads from the mastheads to chain plates amidships to support the mast

What need be aware of in/around the boat basin?

Situational awareness: people walking round, slips, trips, falls, not under crane/forklift The usual PPE

To add grease to wire ripe, or similar idea

Two-block

Two blocks are locked together stopping the line. Don't do this, especially with the crane

Wire Clips

Used to make an eye in wire rope, U shaped with bolts

Which way do you drive the forklift down a ramp with a load on the forks?

When ascending or descending grades in excess of 10% with a loaded forklift drive with the load upgrade

What distance shall be maintained between the tires and the edge of a platform, dock, etc?

Width of one tire minimum, but a foot is a good answer

Within a ship, or on the inside dock side when talking about lines for mooring

Yard and stay rig

Davit

a small crane on board a ship, especially one of a pair for suspending or lowering a lifeboat, but also can be used for cargo
