Cross section
A cut running horizontally from right to left (straight across), dividing the body or an organ into superior and inferior parts
Transverse or Horizontal plane
A plane running from right to left, dividing the body or an organ into superior and inferior parts
Longitudinal Section
A section that is cut along the long axis of a structure (lengthwise)
Sagittal plane
A vertical plane that divides the body or any of its parts into right and left portions

Imaginary flat surface passing through the body
Frontal (coronal) plane
Vertical plane that divides the body or an organ into anterior and posterior parts
Midsagittal plane
divides the body into equal right and left sides
