What is the purpose of assessment?

To gather information or data

Assessment

a general term used to describe the process of collecting, analyzing, and interpreting information(data) for an intended purpose.

Rubric

a set of criteria that describes what to look for in a performance or product and how to determine where the student's performance fits on a predetermined scale.

pre-assessment

a systematic assessment that occurs at the beginning of a school year or when starting a new unit of instruction. It helps you make decisions about what instructional activities are appropriate for your students so that you can begin instruction at a proper place and level.

Norm-referenced test

compares a student's performance on a particular test to the performance of other similar students who have taken the same test.

Criterion reference test

evaluates a student's performance in relation to mastery of certain specified content

Types of final assessments

final grades, midterms, and end of the chapter tests,

Curriculum based assessment

is used to periodically monitor your student's periodic performance in relation to what you are teaching. It tells you how your students are progressing through the curriculum

Final Assessment

A final assessment is a test that you give at the end of the unit of study, a semester, or the school year to be certain students have learned the content.

provides information during the teaching -learning process and helps you analyze how your students are doing.

Self assessment

the process of having students evaluate their own work, behavior, or perceived abilities and provide information about how they think they are performing.
