Describe the work of the Freedmen's Bureau

The Freedmen's Bureau was given the task of feeding and clothing war refugees in the South using surplus army supplies. The Bureau also helped formerly enslaved people find work on plantations. It negotiated labor contracts with planters, specifying workers' pay and number of work hours. The Bureau worked closely with Northern charities to educate formerly enslaved African Americans.
