In Novermber 19, 1863 Abraham lincoln gave a speech in the concertation of a new military cemetery in the town of Gettysburg, Pensylvania. This was the site of the bloodiest war ever fought on American soil. Lincoln's purpose was to gain support for the conflict that was far from over. in his speech he mentions how their ancestors declared that all men are created equal and now within the nation there is war. He stresses the point of not wasting this land on war. He reminds us of the dead who sacrificed their lives. He lastly says that they shouldn't waste the death of these men. That is why they shouldn't let a goverment that is of the people, by the people, and for the people perish.
