Conduction

The heat transfer directly by the touch of one thing to another.

Radiation

The heat transfer where it gets transferred in waves of heat energy.

Convection

The heat transfer where warm air rises and cold air sinks.

conduction- The spoon gets heated directly by the hot soup.

spoon in a cup of hot soup becomes warmer

convection- the warm water is warmer than all the other water particle, so it rises to the top, and the cold water is on the bottom.

warm water at the top of the swimming pool

convection- when the hot air rises and the cold air sinks, the two temperatures collide, it creates wind currents, formed by convection.

wind currents

radiation- the campfire gives off heat in waves.

you can feel the heat of a campfire

radiation- the sun's rays would be harmful to your skin and the heat radiates on your body.

you get sunburnt

conduction- when you touch the warm water, it makes you warm with direct contact.

A person takes a warm bath

conduction- the pan is hot and it heats the vegetables directly.

Stir frying vegetables

conduction- the egg fries when it directly hits the pan.

raw eggs begin to fry when they hit the pan

radiation- the flames heated the buger with waves from under the grill bars.

Grilling hamburgers over a charcoal flame

convection- the description is basically the definition of convection.

Heated air rises, cools, then falls. Air near a heater is replaced with cooler air, and the cycle repeats

Convection- It perfectly fits the description

Hot water rises and cold water sinks

convection- in the attic, it is probably very hot, because the heat rises and pushes the cold air down into the basement.

basement is cooler than the attic

convection- the potatoes are at the top of the water

boiling potatoes in water

radiation- the lightbulb has lots of energy i it.

heat from a lightbulb

convection- the warm air rises which rise the hot air balloon.

hot air balloon rises

conduction- the cold water directly cools the pan when it is touched with cold water.

hot pan is cooled by running it under cold water

conduction- When you iron something, it directly heats up by the heated iron on the cooler clothes.

iron

radiation- In a microwave oven, there isn't fire that shoots onto the food, there is heat radiated on the microwaved food. It even says "wave" in microwave!

microwave oven

convection- the fire goes up, like heat goes up.

propane heater

convection- the radiator makes the warm air rise and the cold air pushes down, which makes the cycle keep repeating.

radiator warms your hands
