These are oxyphil cells, they are one of two of the cell types found in the parathyroid gland. (the other is chief cells which make up the bulk of cell types in the PTG)

What are the cells indicated by the blue arrows?

(in the adrenal cortex, middle layer) they are called spongiocytes.

What are the names of cells present in the zone fasciculata?

Principal cells

What is an alternate name for follicular cells?

This is in the pancreas, it is an islet of Langerhans

What is represented by the yellow arrow?

Thyroglobulin

What is the main substance present in follicles?

Zona reticularis, secretes androgens

What is the zone represented by B called. Which type of hormone is released from it?

Zona fasciculata, secretes glucocorticoids

What is the zone represented by C? Which type of hormone is released from it?

Zona glomerulosa, secretes mineralcorticoids

What is the zone represented by D. Which type of hormone is released from it?

Pancreas

What is this tissue type?

A. Follicular cells B. Follicles C. Blood vessels D. Colloid

What tissue is this? What do A-D represent?

This is the thyroid gland, colloid is contained within the follicle.

What tissue is this? Why substance is contained in the area indicated by the blue star?

This is the adrenal cortex. Spongiocytes are the cell type and they are in the zona fasciculata

What tissue type is this and what are these cells called?

Can see both parathyroid (LU) and thyroid (RL). There are two cell types in the parathyroid gland, the main type is chief cells, and there are also oxyphil cells but less of them.

What type of tissue are we looking at? What is the predominant cell type in the upper L part of the image?

They are present in the adrenal medulla, they secrete catecholamines. They have a pale, somewhat basophilic cytoplasm and are arranged in clusters. Chromaffin cells are derived from neurons.

Describe the histological appearance and location of chromaffin cells

(also called C cells) These cells are in small clusters in the connective tissue between follicles or at the periphery of the follicular epithelium (but they do not contact the colloid). They stain very lightly, round, larger nucleus, and appear in clusters

Describe the histological appearance and location of parafollicular cells

A. The adrenal medulla releases catecholamines via chromaffin cells

In which region of this image are catcholamines released?

Outermost: zona glomerulosa zona fasciculata Innermost: zona reticularis Adrenal medulla (G.F.R.)

Name the layers of the adrenal cortex beginning from the outermost layer to the inside.
